The wait is over. Caldecott-winning author and illustrator Brian Selznick has a new book entitled Wonderstruck (Scholastic), scheduled to go on sale September 13, 2011. The book offers more than 460 pages of original artwork and takes readers on the separate journeys of Ben and Rose, who live 50 years apart and secretly wish life were different.
Ben longs for the father he never knew, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. After Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his mother’s room and Rose reads an enticing newspaper headline, both children set out alone on desperate quests to find what they’re missing. Ben’s story, told in words, and Rose’s, displayed in pictures, weave back and forth, and readers will be surprised at how they unfold and ultimately intertwine.
In Wonderstruck, Selznick expands on the multilayered reading experience that he invented with his first novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
