The Thought Bubble Festival Presents The UK’s First Ever Mondo Exhibition Curated By Olly Moss From November 16 – December, 2, 2012

Thought Bubble is the UK’s largest annual event which celebrates sequential art in all its forms, including everything from superheroes to independent and small press comics. The event will run from November 11-18, 2012.

As part of this year’s Thought Bubble Festival, a special exhibition curated by Olly Moss on behalf of Mondo – the Austin, Texas based art-house and film poster specialist will be held.

Olly Moss has fast become one of Mondo’s most popular artists. His recent take on The Dark Knight Rises sold nearly ten thousand copies, despite being on sale for only 24 hours. Olly’s distinctive style is instantly recognizable – often placing a simple yet bold silhouette against a backdrop of powerful color to create iconic images with a twist.

This free exhibition will be the first ever showing of Moss’ work in the UK, along with a selection of other MONDO artists and a unique opportunity for fans of pop culture, graphic art or simply beautiful images to see these pictures first hand. It will take place from November 16th – December 2nd, 2012 in the recently opened White Cloth Gallery.

Mondo Poster By Aled Lewis For The Shining Documentary Room 237

Artist Aled Lewis created this Shining print for Mondo to be released at Fantastic Fest. The run is a super rare 100, and Aled will have some APs to sell at a later date.

Room 237 is a documentary film by Rodney Ascher that explores themes and hidden meanings in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Lewis describes his design process, “I knew early on what I wanted to do with this and that was creating a print that superficially could be recognized as one for The Shining, but actually has hidden meanings and clues woven throughout it – so hidden in the scene are references to the central themes to the film. Some are more obvious than others! You don’t have to have seen Room 237 to identify some of the more prominent ideas.”

See The Cover of Joyland By Stephen King

Stephen King’s much-anticipated novel Joyland will be released on June 4, 2013 from publisher Hard Case Crime. Joyland takes place in a small-town North Carolina amusement park, where college student Devin Jones arrives at the park to work as a carny for the summer, but he ends up experiencing much more than he bargained for when he confronts the legacy of a vicious murder and the fate of a dying child.

Not only is King going retro with the setting of his upcoming novel, he’s also sticking to a tried-and-true format. “I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts,” he said in the press release. “I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book.”

Charles Ardai, editor of Hard Case Crime, promises a layered, genre-crossing story. “Joyland is a breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking book,” he said. “It’s a whodunit, it’s a carny novel, it’s a story about growing up and growing old, and about those who don’t get to do either because death comes for them before their time. Even the most hard-boiled readers will find themselves moved. When I finished it, I sent a note saying, ‘Goddamn it, Steve, you made me cry.’ ”
