Star Wars Death Star Cookie Jar

The Death Star Cookie Jar ($56.29) is a glazed ceramic replica of the moon-sized Imperial battle station from Star Wars. It is available to purchase online from Firebox.

Where those other hopeless planet-destroying space stations failed, this glazed ceramic behemoth will succeed. Granted it doesn’t have a preposterously large super laser, but it equally doesn’t have a two metre-wide thermal exhaust port that completely undermines its shield’s integrity.

That said, you can comfortably get a hand or two in there to easily replenish (and feast upon) its cookie-based power core. So see how it goes, just keep it safely out of the reach of rebellious young Jedi.

Lays Introduces Chocolate Potato Chips

‘Tis the season to be gluttonous, so Frito-Lay is rolling out milk chocolate-covered “wavy” potato chips.

The limited-edition $3.49 5-ounce bags will be shipped to Target stores starting today and will be on sale throughout the holiday season. If consumers like them, the company will evaluate whether to make them permanent.

The combo of sweet and salty snacks has recently become more popular. Over the past year, or so, the market has exploded with Kettle Maple Bacon Potato Chips, Planter’s Sweet & Salty Snack Mix, ConAgra’s Crunch ‘n Munch and even Sweet ‘n Salty Bugles.

Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger Now Available At Philadelphia’s PYT

First, deep-fried Twinkies became all the rage at state fairs, and then a burger with ramen noodles as buns captivated the New York City food scene this summer.

Now Philadelphia’s PYT — the same artisanal burger joint that cooked up a deep-fried lasagna-bun burger has combined the best of both worlds with a new custom burger featuring two deep-fried Twinkie buns, a custom blend pork belly patty, American cheese and extra bacon of course.

Lipitor can be requested as a side dish.

“Burger buffs “can’t leave Harvard Square” without “squeezing in” “elbow-to-elbow” at this “charm”-heavy “landmark” for “amazing,” “sloppy” patties with “ironic names that make the daunting task of choosing” from the “mind-boggling” variety of toppings a “laugh”; even with no bathrooms, a cash-only rule and what some would say is “spotty” service, it’s “too much fun” – and a “bargain” to boot.”

Ben & Jerry’s Announces Newest Flavor, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” Created in Honor of Ron Burgundy From Anchorman

ben-and-jerrys-ice-cream

Ben & Jerry’s announces its newest limited batch ice cream flavor, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch.” Created in honor of beloved Ron Burgundy, the TV news anchor with a penchant for all things scotch, the flavor is a creamy concoction of butterscotch ice cream with ribbons of butterscotch swirl. Don’t act like you’re not impressed!

“Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch is a delicious ice cream and I hope Ben and Jerry consider my other suggestions,” said Ron Burgundy.  “Malt liquor marshmallow, well liquor bourbon peanut butter, and cheap white wine sherbet.”

The flavor was officially unveiled at New York City’s Pier 36 where members of the press attended and witnessed the announcement first-hand. True to the iconic ice cream company’s untraditional style, the event kicked off with – what else? – a performance by Nutty The Waterskiing Squirrel, as seen in the first Anchorman film. Nutty’s prowess was immediately followed by the appearance of a Ben & Jerry’s scoop-truck-turned-Channel 4 News-truck, which rolled onto the scene transporting a legion of blazer-wearing Ron Burgundy look-alikes. After “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” was officially unveiled, attending media and fans were treated to free scoops of the new Ron Burgundy-inspired flavor.

Fans anxiously await December 20th, when Ron and his elite news team return to the news desk in “Anchorman 2:  The Legend Continues.”

Scotchy Scotch Scotch is available now at participating scoop shops across the country. Pints of the flavor will arrive on store shelves over the next few weeks.

With the 70′s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”  Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) – All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking New York and the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.  Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. BWURm5wCAAAexo7.jpg-large

On October 12th and 13th, Burger King is giving away its new Satisfries.  All customers who visit Burger King during the hours fries would normally be served, will get a free order. No coupons. No ID cards.  No questions. Although, it is a one-per-customer limit.

The new, crinkle-cut fries debuted last week. The fries have 30% less fat and 20% fewer calories than Burger King’s current fries. A small serving of BK’s Satisfries comes in at 270 calories with 11 grams of fat. That compares to 340 calories and 15 grams of fat for a small serving of its classic fries. There is no change in ingredients for the new fries, but the fries absorb less oil, so they have fewer calories.

Burger King New Fries: Lower Calorie, Crinkle-Cut ‘Satisfries’ Added To Menu

After unveiling its $1 French fry burger, Burger King isn’t done adding items to its menu. In an effort to add healthier options, BK announced its new lower calorie, crinkle-cut fries, “Satisfries,” on Monday.

“Satisfries” contain 190 calories and 8 grams of fat, which Burger King said is 30 percent fewer calories and 40 percent less fat than a serving of rival McDonald’s fries. The new fries have 270 calories, compared with 340 for a small order of regular fries.

The fries will hit Burger Kings on Tuesday at just 30 cents more than a regular order of French fries; “Satisfries” will cost $1.89 compared to $1.59 for regular fries.

“Satisfries” have fewer calories and less fat thanks to a new batter recipe and a crinkle-cut that doesn’t absorb as much oil in the frying process, the company said.

Burger King, though, said customers and fast food lovers alike will notice no difference in taste. The Daily Beast, which posted a review of the fries, agreed.

The impact of adding these fries will be huge since one in two Burger King customers order fries, for 56 million orders monthly. The move comes as consumer advocate groups pressure the U.S. food and beverage industry, especially fast-food chains, to offer healthier alternatives, since one-third of Americans are obese, Reuters reported.

Last month, Burger King unveiled its new “French Fry Burger,” costing $1 that consists of a standard burger topped with four French fries.

Scarecrows have been displaced from their traditional role of protecting food, and are now servants to the crows and their evil plans to dominate the food system. McDonald’s, the nation’s fast-food giant is offering a multi-person boxed meal in the Kansas City market — the first time it has sold such a meal in the United States.

The Blitz Box, which includes two Quarter Pounders with cheese, two medium fries and 10 Chicken McNuggets with dipping sauces, sells for $14.99.

In total, the combo, which is meant to feed more than one person, serves up 1.75 pounds of food totaling 2,370 calories, 120 grams of fat (34 grams of it saturated) and 4,580 milligrams of sodium.

The promotion that began Sept. 2, is scheduled to run through the entire football season, says Lisa McComb, a McDonald’s spokeswoman. If it’s a hit, it could expand nationwide.

In addition to the Blitz Box, McDonald’s is also in the process of rolling out a steak option on its breakfast sandwiches and its gearing up for a big fall push of its chicken wings.

And to make it all easier to buy, the company is reportedly testing a mobile payment app at its Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas, stores.

General Mills Will Release All Five of The Monster Cereals For Halloween This Year

tumblr_inline_mrvvijpijk1qz4rgp

Just in time for Halloween, General Mills Big G Monsters Cereals are returning to store shelves for a limited time — and cereal fans are already poised and ready to stock up.

While Count Chocula, Franken Berry and Boo Berry appear regularly around Halloween, their old friends Frute Brute and Yummy Mummy will join them this year for a monstrously delicious reunion.

All five Monsters Cereals will be available at select retailers starting in late August with full nationwide distribution in early September — but only while supplies last. And, through an exclusive agreement, the cereals will be available in retro packaging at Target.

Monsters Cereals have gained a faithful following over the years. Fans eagerly look forward to the seasonal release; collect monsters-inspired clothing, dolls and artwork; and dress as the characters for Halloween.

More than just a tasty treat, the monsters have become iconic Halloween figures, each with their own story and personality.

Considered by some to be the most popular of the monsters, Count Chocula is a vampire who prefers chocolate to blood and is well recognized for his tagline, “I vant to eat your cereal!” First introduced in 1971, Count Chocula cereal combines chocolaty cereal made with whole grain corn and colorful marshmallow shapes.

2013_countchocula_3d_7-7x10

Franken Berry is a cuddly, pink version of Frankenstein’s monster, introduced shortly after Count Chocula. This ghoul still wears the same chain-link suspenders he did when he was first created in 1971. Franken Berry cereal combines delicious strawberry-flavored cereal made with whole grain corn and colorful marshmallow shapes.

2013_frankenberry_3d_7-7x10

Boo Berry was first introduced in 1973 as a blue ghost with a purple tie and hat. The cereal has monstrous blueberry flavor from combining blueberry-flavored frosted cereal made with whole grain corn and colorful marshmallow shapes.

2013_booberry_3d_7-7x10

A rambunctious werewolf wearing striped overalls, Frute Brute joined the gang in 1974 and was discontinued in 1982. Frute Brute cereal, made with whole grain corn, combines fruit-flavored cereal with lime-flavored marshmallows.

2013_frutebrute_3d_7-7x10

The fifth monster arrived in 1987. The cheerful Yummy Mummy is wrapped in rainbow colors. Yummy Mummy cereal, made with whole grain corn, combines fruit-flavored cereal with vanilla-flavored marshmallows. It was discontinued in 1990.

The Top 10 Cities For Pizza

pizzamap

TripAdvisor on Wednesday released its list of the top 10 American cities for pizza, based on reviews of its traveling customers. The list is not led not by powerhouse metropolis New York or Chicago but by midsize San Diego.

The top 10 cities for pizza, as determined by TripAdvisor:

1. San Diego, California

Those traveling to seaside SoCal can enjoy authentic tastes of Italy just miles from the Mexican border. With more than 100 nearby pizzerias, those with an appetite can grab a slice at Bronx, Filippi’s, or Golden Hill’s Pizzeria Luigi where mouthwatering toppings include sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and homemade meatballs. A TripAdvisor traveler commented, “The pizza was just as good as being home in New York.”

2. Las Vegas, Nevada

While visiting Vegas, travelers can step away from the slots to double down on some pie. Favorite shops include Secret Pizza located on the Strip, Nora’s where diners can devour the “Snow White” pizza featuring a medley of cheeses, and Grimaldi’s which boasts coal fired brick-oven pies made with “secret recipe” dough and the perfect combination of cheese and sauce. “Brooklyn pizza in the desert,” commented a TripAdvisor traveler.

3. Boston, Massachusetts

Those visiting Beantown can enjoy Regina Pizzeria located in the Italian North End where the flavors and golden crusts are made from an 80-year-old family recipe. Diners can also indulge at famous Santarpio’s in East Boston, serving savory slices since 1903. Travelers rave about shrimp scampi pizza and “The Works” which includes a variety of the freshest ingredients. “In Boston, the pizza is done the old fashioned way, the way it should be,” commented a TripAdvisor traveler.

4. New York City, New York

Travelers to New York City craving authentic, thin crust pizza will be in their glory as they bite into a scrumptious slice at one of New York’s famed pizzerias which include Lombardi’s, Di Fara’s, and Patsy’s. With outstanding pizzerias seemingly at every corner, diners will enjoy the city’s trademark thin crunchy crust, gooey cheese and savory toppings. “Home of the American pizza,” noted a TripAdvisor traveler.

5. Seattle, Washington

Pizza lovers visiting this Pacific Northwest hub will be thrilled to taste the city’s signature thick and hearty artisan pizza made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Downtown Seattle, locals frequent Serious Pie where guests can taste their homemade mozzarella and tomato creation, while the Flying Squirrel in Seward Park fixes its pizza with a fine selection of local meat. A TripAdvisor traveler commented, “Excellent pizza, high quality ingredients.”

6. Austin, Texas

Travelers visiting the “Live Music Capital of the World” can fill up on pizza before heading to a show. Renowned pizzerias include Frank & Angie’s, Giovanni’s Pizza Stand, and Roppolo’s where guests can try the “Italian Mex” pizza, which honors Austin’s Tex-Mex heritage with spicy flavors of jalapenos and red and gold peppers. One TripAdvisor traveler commented, “Best pizza outside of NYC.”

7. San Francisco, California

The bridge is not all that is golden in the “City by the Bay.” With over 200 pizzerias, each serving heavenly slices adorned with bubbling cheese, savory vine-ripened tomato sauce, and golden crust, travelers are sure to experience “la bella vita.” Famed pizza shops include Delfina’s, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, and Del Popolo’s, a mobile pizzeria housed in a 20-foot transatlantic shipping container that boasts a wood-fired oven. “Best pizza west of Italy,” said a TripAdvisor traveler.

8. Indianapolis, Indiana

Travelers to Indy can immerse themselves in a true culinary adventure tasting the tomato and cheese topped slices in this Midwest metropolis. Among the favorite pizzerias are Jockamo Upper Crust, Brozinni, and Bazbeaux. Located in the city’s Art District, Bazbeaux’s pizzas are carefully crafted using a blend of provolone, mozzarella, and Romano cheese and guests have the option of white or whole wheat crust—thick or thin. A TripAdvisor traveler said, “A pizza lover’s paradise.”

9. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Cheesesteak and soft pretzels are not all travelers will find on the menu in Philly. With a rich Italian heritage, this East Coast city offers over 200 pizza eateries that add to the flavorful restaurant scene. Among the notable shops are The Tomato Bistro, Tacconelli’s, and Tony’s Place which specializes in the “Original” thin-crust tomato pie. One TripAdvisor traveler commented, “Some of the best pizza anywhere.”

10. Phoenix, Arizona

Even in the desert travelers can enjoy a piece of the pie. Those visiting the “Valley of the Sun” will find scrumptious slices of airy, bubbling crust and savory cheese, paired with the perfect amount of fresh tomato sauce. On the menu at Pizzeria Bianco guests will find unique varieties including the “Sonny Boy,” and “Wiseguy,” homemade dough topped with wood-roasted onion, house smoked mozzarella and fennel sausage. “My favorite pizza in the world,” said one TripAdvisor traveler.

Pizzaria Bianco, Phoenix

OK, so I have tried a few of these places such as Regina Pizzeria, Santarpio’s, Lombardi’s, Di Fara’s and Serious Pie and they are all unique and good but I still think the best pizza is from Apizza Scholls in Portland, Oregon.

Owner Brian Spangler makes dough daily (and when he runs out, he’s done). He uses an infrared thermometer to determine the prime hot spots in his electric oven. The result: a crispy crust, perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio and super fresh ingredients. If we ever go back to the The City of Roses, this would be our first stop to eat.

From a heart-stopping “New York White” to a superb sausage and spicy peppers, the pies are all delicious at Apizza Scholls and worth the hour wait!
