Mondo Announces ‘The Art of Jock’ Retrospective

MONDO is excited to unveil, in partnership with Insight Editions, their very first collectible book, “The Art of Jock,” (working title) featuring the breathtaking work of the prolific Mondo collaborator, comics illustrator and conceptual artist. “The Art of Jock,” announced by the artist to a packed panel at MondoCon this past weekend, will be available for sale September 2016 at book shops everywhere and at MondoTees.com and InsightEditions.com.

“I’m so proud to be working with my friends at Mondo and Insight to put together the first extensive collection of my work,” said Jock. “It’s been a labor of love for months already, and we can’t wait to share more details. We’re working hard to make this as special an edition as it can be.”

Mark Simpson, known better by his pen name Jock, is an internationally recognized two-time New York Times Bestselling Artist and Eisner Award winner. For the last two decades Jock has become one of the most recognizable illustrators in comics with his work on titles with Marvel (Savage Wolverine, Daredevil), DC/Vertigo (The Losers, Batman: Black Mirror), and his runaway success Wytches at Image Comics, which he also co-created. His career has now grown beyond just the comic book world into creating highly sought after movie posters as well as concept art for acclaimed films such as The Dark Knight trilogy, Children of Men, Dredd, X-Men: Days of Future Past and was most recently responsible for designing the instantly iconic Ava from Alex Garland’s Ex Machina.

Insight Editions has a legacy of best-selling pop culture art books, including Godzilla: The Art of Destruction, Pacific Rim: Man, Machines and Monsters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History and Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros.

“The Art of Jock” will delve deeply into the prolific artist’s catalog to not only showcase the best of his published works but also his process with extensive sketches and notes throughout. Jock’s notes and personal insights will form the majority of the text, but there will also be interviews and quotes from many of his colleagues, long time collaborators, and directors of films he has worked on. This access to his process will show an outside of the box approach that has made him one of the most critically acclaimed illustrators working today.

Daredevil Reborn Covers By Jock

Lately I have been on a Jock kick, wait a minute…that didn’t sound right. I’m talking about the comic book artist Mark Simpson, known by the pen name Jock, the British comics artist and writer, best known for his work in 2000 AD, The Losers, Batman, Wolverine and Daredevil Reborn.

Daredevil: Reborn was written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Davide Gianfelice with covers by Jock. The four-issue 2011 comic book limited series was published by Marvel Comics and followed the events of Shadowland in which Matt Murdock left Hell’s Kitchen behind and visited Mexico.

I know I am a few years behind in posting these fantastic covers but I just stumbled upon them and had to share. You can purchase the softcover graphic novel of Daredevil Reborn HERE.

Image Announces New Scott Snyder & Jock Comic Book “Wytches” Arriving In September 2014

Yesterday at the Image Expo 2014 in San Francisco, American Vampire” and “Batman” writer Scott Snyder shared that he would explore the world of witches in a new Image comic book series called “Wytches” with his “Detective Comics” collaborator Jock on art.

Here is the press release regarding the project:

Scott Snyder (Batman, Superman Unchained, Severed) and Jock (Batman, Wolverine, Snapshot) will team up for a new, ongoing horror series called Wytches. Everything you thought you knew about witches is wrong. They are much darker, and they are much more horrifying.

Wytches takes the mythology of witches to a far creepier, bone-chilling place than readers have dared venture before. “I like taking classic monsters and reimagining them in a fresh, contemporary, and much scarier way,” said Snyder.

Snyder and Jock have worked together previously on the Batman story “The Black Mirror” in the pages of Detective Comics and Snyder knew from the get-go that he wanted Jock on board.

“It’s great to finally have Scott Snyder back at Image,” said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. “We loved working with Scott on Severed, and he has only gotten better since then, so it’s really wonderful that he’s teaming up with Jock on what is without a doubt one of the creepiest books we have ever published.”

Wytches is a new ongoing fantasy horror series coming to Image Comics in September 2014. You’ve been warned.
