20th Anniversary Screening of The Shawshank Redemption

the-shawshank-redemption_806x1075_v2

Screenwriter Frank Darabont made his feature directing debut with an Oscar-nominated adaptation of Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, and over the last twenty years, this gripping story of hope and courage has become one of the most beloved films of its time.

Tim Robbins stars as Andy Dufresne, a young banker falsely convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover, who faces unthinkable brutality as an inmate of Shawshank State Prison. Andy’s accounting skills and his friendship with a more experienced prisoner, Ellis Boyd ‘Red’ Redding played by Morgan Freeman help keep him alive in the hostile setting. However, an unforgivable betrayal leads him to plot an impossible escape.

For his directing debut, Darabont assembled a top-notch supporting cast with a memorable performance by the great James Whitmore as a longtime convict. Darabont was also aided by Roger Deakins’ stark cinematography, Richard Francis-Bruce’s tense editing and Thomas Newman’s emotional score, which all earned Oscar nominations.

Stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman and writer-director Frank Darabont will appear in person at the screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills on November 18, 2014 to help celebrate this contemporary classic’s 20th anniversary. More information HERE.

Tomorrowland Teaser Trailer

TL_Tsr_1-Sht_v4_Lg

Disney released the first trailer for the sci-fi-fantasy film Tomorrowland today, and they’re calling it Harry Potter for science nerds.

George Clooney narrates the teaser, where we see Under the Dome’s Britt Robertson as the protagonist of the film set in a futuristic world (loosely based on the amusement park’s themed world).

“What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you’re a Muggle,” Tomorrowland screenwriter Damon Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly.

“Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel.”

Robertson portrays Casey Newton, a girl from Florida who finds a magical pin that gives her the ability to transport to a different world. She meets jaded, shut-in scientist Frank Walker (Clooney), and together they unearth more about this enigmatic world. He tells her in the trailer, “What if there was a place, a secret place, where nothing was impossible, a miraculous place where you could actually change the world? You wanna go?”

Hugh Laurie stars in the film as well as Raffey Cassidy, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, Tim McGraw and Thomas Robinson.

Tomorrowland will be released in theaters on May 22, 2015.

A Frozen Ride Is Coming To Disney World

ANE7966464

Construction has begun at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet guests.

“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.

The theme park is extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).

5958C2A9-D6DC-45D4-AF3A-8B2FD4068802

Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel’s “Ant-Man.” The film brings one of Marvel comics’ original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production.

Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “The Bourne Legacy”), Bobby Cannavale (“Danny Collins,” “Annie,” “HBO’s “The Long Play”), Michael Peña (“End of Watch,” “American Hustle”), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness”), Judy Greer (“13 Going on 30,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “Prisoners”), Wood Harris (“Remember the Titans,” “The Wire”), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 2”) and Gregg Turkington (“The Comedy,” “On Cinema”) and multi-hyphenate T.I. (“American Gangster,” “Takers”).

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel’s “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Director Peyton Reed’s creative team also includes Oscar winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (“Titanic,” “21”), production designer Sheppard Frankel (“Identity Thief,” “Horrible Bosses”) costume designer Sammy Sheldon Differ (“X-Men: First Class,” “Kick Ass”), visual effects supervisor Jake Morrison (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” “The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers”), stunt coordinator Jeff Habberstad (Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) and six-time Oscar® nominee, special effects supervisor Dan Sudik (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”).  The editors include Dan Lebental, ACE (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” Marvel’s “Iron Man”) and Colby Parker Jr. (“Lone Survivor,” “Hancock”).
