Image Announces New Scott Snyder & Jock Comic Book “Wytches” Arriving In September 2014

Yesterday at the Image Expo 2014 in San Francisco, American Vampire” and “Batman” writer Scott Snyder shared that he would explore the world of witches in a new Image comic book series called “Wytches” with his “Detective Comics” collaborator Jock on art.

Here is the press release regarding the project:

Scott Snyder (Batman, Superman Unchained, Severed) and Jock (Batman, Wolverine, Snapshot) will team up for a new, ongoing horror series called Wytches. Everything you thought you knew about witches is wrong. They are much darker, and they are much more horrifying.

Wytches takes the mythology of witches to a far creepier, bone-chilling place than readers have dared venture before. “I like taking classic monsters and reimagining them in a fresh, contemporary, and much scarier way,” said Snyder.

Snyder and Jock have worked together previously on the Batman story “The Black Mirror” in the pages of Detective Comics and Snyder knew from the get-go that he wanted Jock on board.

“It’s great to finally have Scott Snyder back at Image,” said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. “We loved working with Scott on Severed, and he has only gotten better since then, so it’s really wonderful that he’s teaming up with Jock on what is without a doubt one of the creepiest books we have ever published.”

Wytches is a new ongoing fantasy horror series coming to Image Comics in September 2014. You’ve been warned.

Scott Snyder Announces Flash-Forward Batman # 28 With Art By Dustin Nguyen

Scott Snyder announced via Twitter that Batman #28 will be a special issue that shows what’s happening in the world of Batman after Zero Year and will be drawn by Dustin Nguyen!

“We agreed,” says Snyder, “that with all the crazy stuff that’s going to happen in 2014 – and my goal above all in 2014 is to keep things daring and fun – it’d be a thrill to do a total spoiler issue. A stand-alone issue that takes place in the near future and reveals all sorts of massive surprises coming to Gotham.”

The new issue – #28 – will replace the original finale issue of Zero Year: Dark City and “the issue will have a lot of surprises” says Snyder. It jumps forward in the timeline and “shows you a glimpse of the future of Batman – Gotham circa summer 2014.”

Batman # 29 will now conclude the Zero Year: Dark City arc of the three part storyline. Snyder went on to share a look at a character design for Batman # 28 that you can see below.

Sneak Peek At Vertigo’s American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell

american-vampire1

Vertigo has unveiled a preview of American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell #1, a one-shot co-written by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque, with art by Albuquerque. A variant cover will be drawn by Tony Moore.

Arriving June 12, the special features the return of fan-favorite vampire hunter Travis Kidd (introduced in the series’ “Death Race” arc) as he tracks a pair of newly turned young lovers — the “Heartbreak Killers” — across the American heartland.

“This is my first time writing for Vertigo and it’s a big honor,” Albuquerque said in March. “Once it was decided we would go on hiatus, I approached Mark (our editor) with the idea of doing this special, so the fans could have a ‘taste of blood’ while waiting for the book’s return. He liked the idea and we (Scott Snyder, Mark and I) began talking about it.”

Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo Discuss Batman: Zero Year

batman_zeroyear_crop

Kicking off this June, Batman: Zero Year is an epic and grand 11-issue arc that chronicles the untold details of Batman’s origin story within DC Comics-The New 52. From the #1 New York Times bestselling creative team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, Zero Year takes flight in BATMAN #21.

“He becomes Batman pretty early in this,” Snyder teased to Comic Book Resources about Bruce Wayne picking up the Dark Knight’s cape and cowl. “You’ll see him as Batman not too far in. So in terms of that origin, that’s part of it. But part of this is the first big adventure he had as Batman. It’s not just how Bruce becomes Batman. That’s certainly a big part of ‘Zero Year’ at the beginning, but it’s also about how the city changes for him. It’s about how he becomes its hero. What does that mean? And what kind of threat is it going to throw at him to challenge him and make sure he’s worthy of that?”

Scott Snyder Discusses Batman: Zero Year At WonderCon

batmanzeroyear6581

Friday evening at WonderCon in Anaheim Scott Snyder discussed his upcoming take on Batman’s origin at the “Batman: Zero Year” panel.

With ‘Zero Year’ we’re absolutely, 100% (doing new takes on old ideas),” the writer said of the new story.

Snyder promises that he’s not trying to rewrite Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s “Year One” story.

“What happened was other stories came along the way like Selina Kyle’s history being different, James, Jr. would only be six years old…Gordon was different, the Falcone’s were different.” Snyder said when DC asked about doing a new take on Batman’s origins, he had a moment where he realized, “I could rewrite ‘Year One’ for you and say ‘Everything that happened happened’ and make a poor imitation of it, or we can try to do something f-ing new…let’s try to give you an origin you’ve never seen, characters you’ve never seen, moments you’ve never seen, tech you’ve never seen…a Gotham you’ve never seen before!”

Snyder said he’ll never change core things like Joe Chill. “If I try to do things like the pearls or the lamp, it’s just a poor imitation.”

Batman: Zero Year will be 11-issues long and the story arc will begin with June’s Batman #21.

DC Entertainment Announces Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo’s Batman: Zero Year

For months now, fans have wondered what the next big Batman event following the acclaimed “Death of the Family” would be.

This morning, DC Comics answered their question. Kicking off in June, Batman: Zero Year is an epic and grand 11-issue arc that chronicles the untold details of the Dark Knight’s origin story within DC Comics – The New 52.

“It’s not ‘let’s redo the origin.’ It’s time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52,” series writer Scott Snyder explained. “We tried to preserve as much of Batman’s history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact. It’s ‘The Zero Year,’ the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain … It’s time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in The New 52. It builds up the mythology.”

Illustrated by series artist Greg Capullo, Batman: Zero Year begins in June’s BATMAN #21.

Jim Lee & Scott Snyder’s Superman Unchained To Be Released On June 12, 2013

SM_Promo

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Man of Steel and the superhero from Krypton will be celebrated in a number of ways.

A new movie, Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill will arrive in theaters on June 14th.

DC Comics is putting their top talent in charge of a new comic series titled,

Superman Unchained. Artist Jim Lee and writer Scott Snyder will debut issue # 1 on Wednesday June 12th.

Readers will get their first look at the new series in a special for this year’s “Free Comic Book Day.” Snyder will also be writing back-up stories at the end of each issue with artist Dustin Nguyen.

“The way to approach a character as iconic as him,” said Snyder, “is you just come at it from a standpoint of what you love the most about the character, and then write a story that explores that, tear it down and build it back up.”

“The energy we’re bringing to the story and that ‘Hey, we can add new stuff to the canon’ kind of attitude will serve us well,” Lee says.
