The Excalibur 3926T Dehydrator ($249.95) is the Rolls-Royce of all food dehydrators. Excalibur has been in business for the past 36 years and is a company that has mastered the science of dehydration.
Years ago I owned a circular model dehydrator, and was thoroughly frustrated with the process of drying foods. The trays were small and there was wasted space in the center due to the poor circular design. Worst of all, I recall that it took me almost 3 days to make a tray of dried fruit.
Last week I unboxed the mighty Excalibur and within minutes was drying 3 trays of strawberries. 6 hours later, I had perfectly dried berries. Within 30 minutes they had been eaten, my kids had gladly devoured them all. That night I decided to go through my entire fridge to see what else I could try. I quickly and easily filled up all 9 trays, and by morning had successfully dried tomatoes, carrots, plums, apples, and yes, more strawberries.
The Excalibur 3926T comes well equipped with 9 large removable trays (15 square feet of space) plus 9 sheets of Polyscreen tray liners. The case is available in either black or appliance white. All units come with a black door and black trays. The trays are all dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. Additional non-stick Paraflexx sheets may be purchased separately to be used for liquid type foods, such as purees for making fruit roll ups, fruit leathers, and jerky. This model also comes with a 26 hour adjustable timer. This is a wonderful feature that allows you to sleep or leave home while maximizing you drying time. There is never a need to shift and rotate foods, as the unit utilizes a Turbo Charged Parrallexx drying system which allows all of the trays to heat and dry evenly. The adjustable Hyperwave thermostat allows you to fine-tune the dial to ensure that you achieve specific temperature settings for drying: herbs, living foods, raising bread, making yogurt, vegetables, fruit and fruit rolls, meat, fish, and jerky.
If you are a person who enjoys gardening, sports, crafts, or if you simply like eating and preserving healthy food for you and your loved ones, the Excalibur is a fantastic investment. (Reviewed by Meredith Fire-Hess)
