Disney will update the seven dwarfs of “Snow White” for a new Disney TV animation series aimed at young children, “The 7D” that is set to premiere in 2014 on the Disney Junior channel.
The comedic “7D” would take place in a contemporary storybook world known as “Jollywood,” where the septet (Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy and Doc) join Queen Delightful in keeping the kingdom in order and thwarting villains Grim and Hildy Groom.
“With ‘7D,’ we look to continue Walt Disney’s legacy of reinterpreting classic folk and fairy tales in ways that delight new audiences,” Disney Junior Worldwide senior veep of original programming and general manager Nancy Kanter said. “We’re excited to reimagine these familiar characters and put them in a new humorous setting.”
Tom Ruegger (“Animaniacs”) will exec produce, with Alfred Gimeno (“Tiny Toon Adventures”) directing. Characters have been designed by Noah Z. Jones of Disney Channel’s “Fish Hooks.”
