Hosted in and around the San Diego area since its launch in 1970, Comic-Con International has upped their contract with the Californian city and will keep their popular venue through at least 2016.
Held at the San Diego Convention center since 1991, Comic-Con has, in that two-decade period, expanded from roughly 15,000 attendees to more than 130,000 during this year’s event.
Plans for the expansion include an additional 220,150 square feet of exhibit hall space, 101,500 square feet of meeting rooms and 78,470 square feet of ballroom space as well as a new rooftop park/plaza, 45,000 square feet of visitor-serving retail space and a 500-room expansion of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel.
