Joe Hill’s Locke & Key Could Be Revived As A Movie Trilogy

First of all let me state that this is just a rumor but I hope it’s true…Universal is considering making Locke and Key into a movie trilogy.

The highly acclaimed comic book series published by IDW, written by the brilliant novelist Joe Hill (Heart-Shaped Box, Horns) and painstakingly drawn by Gabriel Rodriguez (Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show, Beowulf) deserves to be seen on the screen!

At one point it almost happened, a proposed FOX television adaptation of Locke & Key penned by Josh Friedman and directed by Mark Romanek never came to fruition. But that was the small screen, now we’re talking the big screen and not just one film but three!

Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them…. and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all…sounds good, right?

Should Universal move forward with the project, they’re hopeful that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who were also producers on the Fox series) would continue in these past roles for the film and possibly write the screenplay.

Locke and Key has been my favorite comic series for the last few years. It’s suspenseful, tense, gorgeous, magical, mysterious and I truly hope that Universal  green lights the project. If so, I will be sitting in the center aisle opening day eagerly waiting for the theater lights to dim.
