Stephen King’s Gramma Headed to Theaters

Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Wonderland Sound and Vision have announced they will bring an adaptation of Stephen’s short story Gramma to the silver screen.

Titled Mercy, the film will be directed by Peter Cornwell (A Haunting in Connecticut) and will be produced by McG (Terminator Salvation) and Mary Viola (We are Marshall). The screenplay has been written by Matt Greenburg (1408).

The project will star British actor Frances O’Connor (The Hunter) with Dylan McDermott, (The Practice) Chandler Riggs, (The Walking Dead) and Joel Courtney (Super 8) supporting the fantasy-horror film.

The tale, which King first published in 1984 in Wierdbook magazine and which was then published in his 1985 short story collection Skeleton Key, concerns a mother, played by O’Connor, with two young sons who come to discover their ailing grandmother, Mercy, is a witch.
