For the last year comedian/actor Jeff Garlin has been having intimate unscripted conversations with a few of his friends at the Los Angeles club Largo.
Audiences got the rare opportunity to sit in just like a fly on the wall. Past “conversations” have included diverse guests: Larry David, John Waters, Michael Moore, Henry Rollins, Jeff Tweedy, J.J. Abrams, Zach Galifianakis and Judd Apatow. Will Ferrell is scheduled for the end of this month.
I have been lucky to attend a handful of these “chit-chat” sessions and they have been hilarious, eye-opening, genuine and a refreshing change from the talk show pablum of canned questions and answers.
Fortunately, Jeff was smart enough to record these sessions and they will now be available as podcasts. Garlin recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the project.
The podcasting network Earwolf recently announced that the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actor and producer will have off-the-cuff conversations available for download and the first one featuring Larry David is now available!
In the first podcast, Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David admits he never would’ve agreed to this sort of malarky had Garlin not been such a close friend. During this off-the-cuff chat, we learn why Larry 1. would prefer to do crossword puzzles than voluntarily listen to music, 2. feels nervous at a dinner table of 12, and 3. is overly strategic in the gifting of old shirts. And you won’t believe the one mundane thing that Larry has never before done in his life.
