What Are DC Comic’s 25 Most Essential Graphic Novels?

Over the last 25+ years DC Entertainment has released landmark graphic novels, from books that defined the category like Watchmen, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Sandman to contemporary classics like Superman: Earth one and American Vampire.

Looking to provide information to retailers, librarians, and consumers interested in its book-format comics, DC Comics published the DC Entertainment Essential Graphic Novels and Chronology 2013, a 121-page reading guide and index to the publisher’s extensive backlist of collected and original graphic novels. The guide was released to comic shops in May and can be downloaded from iTunes HERE for free.

The guide listed the 25 most essential DC graphic novels. Here are the titles:

6. Saga of The Swamp Thing: Book One

10. All Star Superman
11. Kingdom Come
12. Batman: The Long Halloween
13. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Volume 1
14. Batman: Earth One
15. Green Lantern: Rebirth
16. American Vampire: Volume 1
17. Blackest Night
18. Final Crisis
19. JLA: Volume 1
20. Identity Crisis
21. Batman: Hush
22. Joker
