DC will start a weekly Batman comic next year. Kicking off in the spring of 2014, Batman: Eternal will be a weekly comic series featuring stories from current Batman writer Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes and Tim Seeley.

“We’re gonna give you the biggest, craziest and most fun stuff we’ve done on the book and in the world of Gotham,” Snyder said. Snyder will function as the “showrunner” for the series, guiding the story along while not officially penning the scripts.

“We want this to be a place where you get to tell a story about anything you want in Gotham, so long as we’re also moving this big story forward in the background,” Snyder explains. “You’ll see bombastic arcs as well but there’ll be plenty of room for Ray to explore some of the darker, more mystical aspects of Gotham that he loves or Tim to explore some of the crime we haven’t seen before.”

Snyder also teased that the stories in “Eternal” will “set the stage for a new Gotham and new characters and a new set of stories that will take Batman into 2015.”

In addition, DC announced that Detective Comics #27 will be a giant-sized 104 page issue as a nod to the original Detective Comics #27 that Batman first appeared in back in 1939. The issue will feature stories by writers Paul Dini, Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz and Peter Tomasi and illustrators Neal Adams, Dustin Nguyen and Francesco Francavilla, and a two page spread by famed Batman artist Frank Miller.
