Disney announced that the live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book will open on October 9, 2015 and the Johnny Depp-fronted Alice in Wonderland 2 is set for a May 27, 2016 release.
Iron Man Director Jon Favreau will helm The Jungle Book, which Justin Marks is adapting. The film will be a re-telling of the classic Kipling tale of a boy raised by animals in the jungle. Disney previously adapted the story for the 1967 animated pic and as a live-action feature with Cary Elwes in 1994.
Alice in Wonderland 2 will re-team Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska as the Mad Hatter and Alice. James Bobin (The Muppets) will take over directing duties from Tim Burton. The first film hit theaters in March of 2010 and went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide.
