Starbucks collaborated with Gilt.com this holiday season to offer its customers the exclusive new Limited Edition Metal Starbucks Card on Friday, December 6, 2013 at noon ET at www.gilt.com/starbucksrose.
The hand-assembled card featured an artisan rose base metal with rose colored coating, laser-etched with traditional Starbucks lettering.
The card retailed for $450 and came preloaded with $400 to use at Starbucks, plus automatic My Starbucks Rewards Gold-level status (a free birthday treat and 15% off coupon at StarbucksStore.com, free refills on iced or brewed coffee and tea, special offers and coupons, and a free drink or food item with every 12 stars).
After the sale for the cards went live at noon Friday on Gilt.com, the site’s hits per minute beat those of Cyber Monday by almost 2.5 times. Only 1,000 cards were available. The cards sold out six minutes.
Within 30 minutes, more than 11,000 people had tried to get on a wait-list for the card. Some who nabbed the even more exclusive golden cards are already re-selling them on eBay for as much as $1,675.00.
