Movies R Fun! A Collection of Cinematic Classics for the Pre- (Film) School Cinephile By Josh Cooley

Movies R Fun! ($12.95) the new book by Pixar animator Josh Cooley. It cleverly translates memorable scenes from classic contemporary films into the format of an “inappropriate Golden Book.”

The idea for the book originated when Josh’s daughter was born and he realized it would be at least 17 years before he could share his favorite films with her. His tongue-in-cheek solution was a child’s book that could introduce some of the most memorable moments of those films

Josh self-published a modest run of the book and took it to San Diego Comic-Con where it sold out quickly and caught the eye of BoingBoing, TheMillions, Salon, and Reddit, to name a few.

Now, Chronicle Books publishes an updated version with additional films represented. Of course, this book is on our Adult list, not our children’s list.  Josh’s daughter still has to wait a few years before she can read it.

The 48 page hardcover will be released on February 25, 2014.

The book will have two launch events:

February 22, 2014: Gallery1988, 7308 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046

March 1, 2013: Trickster Gallery, 2631 Ashby Ave., Berkeley, CA
