Disney released the first trailer for the sci-fi-fantasy film Tomorrowland today, and they’re calling it Harry Potter for science nerds.
George Clooney narrates the teaser, where we see Under the Dome’s Britt Robertson as the protagonist of the film set in a futuristic world (loosely based on the amusement park’s themed world).
“What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you’re a Muggle,” Tomorrowland screenwriter Damon Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly.
“Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel.”
Robertson portrays Casey Newton, a girl from Florida who finds a magical pin that gives her the ability to transport to a different world. She meets jaded, shut-in scientist Frank Walker (Clooney), and together they unearth more about this enigmatic world. He tells her in the trailer, “What if there was a place, a secret place, where nothing was impossible, a miraculous place where you could actually change the world? You wanna go?”
Hugh Laurie stars in the film as well as Raffey Cassidy, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, Tim McGraw and Thomas Robinson.
Tomorrowland will be released in theaters on May 22, 2015.
