Official LEGO Doctor Who Set Coming Soon

LEGO has officially confirmed a deal with the BBC to create an official “Doctor Who” set, based on an idea submitted by a fan. On the air since 1963, with the title character played by 12 (or more) people, “Doctor Who” has a vast range of heroes, villains and settings to choose from.

The new set will be based on a design created by fan Andrew Clark and submitted to the Lego Ideas website. Although the final form is yet to be revealed, Clark’s idea includes a brick-built Tardis that opens up to form the control room complete with central console.

Clark proposes minifig versions of current Doctor Peter Capaldi and previous incarnations David Tennant or Tom Baker — with sonic screwdrivers, of course. They’ll be ably assisted by companions Clara and Rose, and menaced by Cybermen and Weeping Angels. The set is rounded out by minifig-scale versions of a Dalek and friendly robot dog K-9.

Previously known as Lego Cuusoo, Lego Ideas allows anyone to submit their own designs for fans to vote on their favorites. Should a design garner 10,000 votes, the company considers it for production. LEGO’s in-house designers tweak the design, and the set is then officially manufactured and sold around the world.

The Doctor will be joined by Wall-E, in a set based on a submission by Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who actually worked on the film.

These are the only two sets to be approved from 2014’s second round of contenders.
