Pixar Releases First Short Film, Purl From New SparkShorts Animation Program

Pixar has debuted its first short film under its new animation program SparkShorts, a new initiative at the studio aimed at cultivating independent projects from the company’s own artists and directors.

The first film, Purl, directed by Kristen Lester and produced by Gillian Libbert-Duncan, features an earnest ball of yarn named Purl who gets a job in a fast-paced, high energy, bro-tastic start-up. Yarny hijinks ensue as she tries to fit in, but how far is she willing to go to get the acceptance she yearns for, and in the end, is it worth it?

Disney and Pixar teased that more projects from the SparkShorts program will debut on the company’s forthcoming streaming service, Disney+, later this year.
