Mike Barker To Direct Adaptation of The Talisman

Mike Barker (The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo, Outlander) will be directing The Talisman feature film adaptation based on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 bestselling fantasy novel.

The Talisman follows Jack Sawyer, a young boy in possession of a powerful talisman that can save his mother’s life, who is forced to go on the run from the inhabitants of a magical parallel universe who have discovered how to travel between worlds.

King and Straub wrote a follow-up novel, Black House, in 2001, which follows a now-adult Jack as a retired Los Angeles homicide detective trying to solve a series of murders in a small Wisconsin town.

From Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and The Kennedy/Marshall Company, the feature will be produced by Frank Marshall while former Amblin CEO Michael Wright will executive produce. Chris Sparling (Buried) is attached to write the adapted screenplay.

The Talisman joins the ever-growing list of big-screen Stephen King adaptations in the works. Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch’s reimagining of Pet Sematary will arrive in theaters on April 5. IT: Chapter Two and Doctor Sleep are both in post-production at Warner Bros. King’s work can also be seen on the small screen, as The Outsider is currently in production at HBO. Mr. Mercedes was also recently renewed for a third season by Audience Network.
