Stephen King’s Short Story, Rest Stop Is Coming To The Big Screen

Stephen King’s short story Rest Stop is being developed into a film adaptation for Legendary Entertainment.

Rest Stop is described as a propulsive cat and mouse thriller, following the twisted journey of two women after a fateful encounter at a highway rest stop. The story was originally published in Esquire Magazine in 2003 and received the 2004 National Magazine Award. Rest Stop was later added in King’s Just After Sunset collection in 2008.

Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell, Christopher Robin) is attached to write and direct the film. Craig Flores (300, 300: Rise of an Empire) will produce through his Bread & Circuses banner. Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes will oversee the project for Legendary.

Rest Stop is just the latest King title to be adapted for audiences. Other features include the recent release of Pet Sematary, last year’s IT, the upcoming IT: Chapter Two, and The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep. Hulu’s Castle Rock is currently filming its second season, while Mr. Mercedes was also renewed for a Season 3 at Audience Network. Numerous other projects have also been announced, such as AMC’s adaptation of King’s bestselling novel Sleeping Beauties, J.J. Abrams Lisey’s Story series starring Julianne Moore, and the feature film adaptation of King and Peter Straub’s novel The Talisman.
