Funko, Universal Brand Development and Random House Books for Young Readers are starting a fresh chapter in licensed publishing with the launch of several new titles. This is the first time Funko Pop! licensed characters will be in print.
The first release is Universal Monsters which will hit shelves on September 7. The book features Funko Pop! versions of the Universal Pictures’ classic monster characters Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman. Upcoming titles will draw on blockbuster films such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Back to the Future, as well as TV shows like The Office.
The Funko Pop! publishing program is aiming to publish two new titles a year for kids ages two to five. The books will be available in the Little Golden Book format, featuring a sturdy cardboard cover and gold-foil spine.
Dennis Shealy, Random House’s editorial director for licensed publishing, is editing the upcoming titles.
