The Best Horror Movies of 2022 (So Far)

2022 has been a record-breaking year for horror movies, with many newly released films breaking records at the box office. Whether you’re building a list of movies to marathon this Halloween season or just want a spooky thriller to watch onboard your next Access Global flight, here are some of the best horror movies of the year so far.

Nope

From acclaimed writer and director Jordan Peele (famous for his instant classic films “Get Out” and “Us”) comes one of the best films in any genre to be released this year. The film follows a pair of siblings who encounter a supernatural, possibly extraterrestrial force on their family’s ranch following the strange and unexpected death of their father.

Bodies Bodies Bodies

If you’re looking to a spooky film that isn’t too scary, this dark comedy from A24 is the perfect choice. With a star studded cast that includes Pete Davidson and Rachel Sennott, “Bodies Bodies Bodies” follows a group of young adults who are forced to live out a real life murder mystery after tragedy strikes while sheltering in place during a hurricane.

The Black Phone

This film puts a twist on a classic horror idea – the kidnapping of a young child. When a 13 year old boy is kidnapped and placed in a soundproof basement, he begins recieving calls from the deceased previous victims of his kidnapper who are desperate to help him escape.

X And Pearl

“X” was praised by critics and audiences alike as being one of the top films of the year. The slasher set in the 1970’s was so successful that it sparked the release of “Pearl,” the film’s official prequel which is set in the early 1900’s and tells the story of the original movie’s villain, Pearl.

Both films have been met with praise and are widely considered to be among the best horror releases of the last few years.

Smile

A psychiatrist works to discover what evil force is troubling her parents before their tragic deaths, before ultimately coming face to face with the evil herself. “Smile” deals with heavy issues including familial strain, relationship issues, and suicide, combined with a supernatural element that leaves viewers on edge from start to finish. The film was met with praise from critics and viewers alike, and is sure to be one of the most memorable releases of the year.
