Stephen King: Three Novels Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions

One of the best-selling authors of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Stephen King has made a career out of thrilling readers with his dark and disturbing masterpieces of the macabre. Stephen King: Three Novels brings together King’s first three published novels for a trilogy of terror unparalleled in modern fiction.

Carrie is the story of Carrie White, an outcast and alienated high-school student who discovers that she possesses formidable paranormal powers. While Carrie struggles privately to understand the full scope of her wild talents, her classmates escalate their cruel taunts, provoking her in dangerous ways that no one could dream of in their worst nightmares.

In Salem’s Lot, writer Ben Mears returns to his hometown in Maine to write a book on the local Marsten House, the site of an unsettling childhood experience that has haunted him ever since. The Marsten House has recently been purchased by an unseen new owner, and when the townspeople begin disappearing–and then reappearing as bloodthirsty monsters–Ben realizes that house is a locus of evil that has attracted a master member of the Undead.

The Shining takes place at the sinister Overlook Hotel, a retreat in Colorado that has catered for decades to the wealthy and absorbed the malignant spirit of horrors that have happened on its premises. When recovering alcoholic Jack Torrance arrives there one snowbound winter to serve as the hotel’s new caretaker, little does he know that the evil place will exert its insidious influence to liberate his personal demons and add to its legacy of terror.

Stephen King: Three Novels is one of Barnes & Noble’s Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world’s greatest authors in an exquisitely designed foil-stamped binding, with distinctive colored edging and an attractive ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensable cornerstone for any home library.

With ‘NOS4A2,’ Joe Hill Finally Sinks His Teeth Into TV

The AMC horror series NOS4A2 is one of several adaptations the best-selling horror author Joe Hill has in the works, after multiple stalled attempts.

In this New York Times interview the author discusses vampirism; feminism; supernaturalism; sadism; his father, the best-selling novelist Stephen King; and his own best-selling novel NOS4A2.

NOS4A2 is both the first of Hill’s stories to make it to the small screen and one of several TV projects he now has in the works, a dramatic reversal of fortune after multiple stalled attempts. Misfires included a reboot of George A. Romero’s horror series “Tales From the Darkside,” which never made it past the pilot stage after Hill wrote several scripts, and two adaptations of “Locke & Key,” a comic Hill did with the artist Gabriel Rodríguez. Separate pilots were produced for each — first for Fox, then for Hulu — but both were dropped.

Then suddenly, abundance: In addition to “NOS4A2,” “Locke & Key” was finally picked up for a Netflix series, which is expected to debut by early next year. A Netflix film based on “In the Tall Grass,” a short story Hill wrote with his father, is expected this fall.

And in a development that completes a personal circle for Hill, the streaming service Shudder is in postproduction on an adaptation of his 2014 short story “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain” for its anthology series “Creepshow,” a reboot of the 1982 movie written by King — which also starred Hill as a little boy.

Taschen To Publish The Stan Lee Story XXL Edition

First published as a signed Collector’s Edition and sold out within a week, this is an unparalleled account of the life and times of Stan Lee, written and edited with the Godfather of comics himself. His tale is told by Roy Thomas, who brings “you are there” insights to Lee’s journey alongside never-before-seen photographs, original comic art, and rare comicbook facsimiles—a tribute worthy of the Man.

Now available as an unlimited XXL edition, this is the big one, True Believers! The mostly true tale of Stan Lee: a Giant-Size extravaganza, nearly ten years in the making, about the one and only Godfather of Comics. From his childhood in Depression-era New York, to transforming Marvel into the number one comics publisher in the world, to his 21st-century reinvention as Chief Creative Officer of global entertainment company POW! Entertainment, Stan “the Man” Lee stands the test of time as the most legendary name in comicbook history.

Stanley Lieber began working at Timely Comics in 1940 at the age of 17 and found himself at the helm of the bullpen as its top editor just two years later. But it wasn’t until 1961 that he ignited a revolution known as the “Marvel Age of Comics.” With a legendary stable of art partners including Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita, and Jim Steranko, Lee unleashed a dizzying cascade of seminal comicbook creations—the Fantastic Four, Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, the X-Men, and the Avengers to name a few. After moving to Hollywood in 1980, he did it again, developing TV and film projects that laid the groundwork for the “Marvel movie.” Stan’s constant cameo presence in these billion-dollar worldwide events is a testament to his influence. As the man behind POW! Entertainment, he became a master of all media—working with rock stars and professional sports leagues, movie mavens and reality TV shows—reinforcing his creative stature the world over.

The book was written and edited with Lee’s full cooperation. His tale is told by his successor at Marvel, renowned comics writer, editor, and historian Roy Thomas, who brings “you are there” insights and wide-eyed clarity to key moments of Lee’s journey to pop culture immortality. Featuring hundreds of treasures of comic book art, intimate photographs sourced straight from his family archives, a foreword written by Lee himself, a novel-length essay and new epilogue by Thomas, and an appendix with complete reprints of Stan’s comics from throughout the decades, this is a titanic tribute worthy of the Man.

The Stan Lee Story XXL Edition measures a whopping 11.5 x 17.2 in. and includes 624 pages. The book will be published in the summer of 2019 and you can pre-order it HERE for $200.

André Øvredal To Direct Stephen King’s The Long Walk

Another Stephen King book is being turned into a feature film, and André Øvredalo will be at the helm. Øvredalo will direct King’s 1979 novella The Long Walk, which was written under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman.

The story takes place in a dystopian future, where 100 boys are selected for a long walk. They have to maintain speeds of 4 miles an hour, and receive fewer than three warnings an hour. Break these rules, and they’re shot dead. The last one standing, however, gets whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Despite the high stakes, the boys form an unlikely camaraderie along their journey.

James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) wrote the screenplay and is producing alongside Bradley Fischer and William Sherak.

Øvredalo is also directing the upcoming adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, with Guillermo del Toro producing. He previously helmed the claustrophobic horror, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, which came out in 2016.

The Long Walk marks the third King property currently in development over at New Line. There’s IT: Chapter Two, which is out this summer, and Salem’s Lot, which is being produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) and written by Gary Dauberman (IT).
