Tom Hanks To Star In David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special For NBC

Tom Hanks will reprise the role of David S. Pumpkins from “SNL” in a new animated Halloween special, NBC announced Thursday.

“The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special” is based on the viral “Haunted Elevator” sketch from the Oct. 22, 2016 “SNL” telecast that featured Hanks as mystery man David S. Pumpkins, on an elevator wearing a pumpkin suit and surrounded by two skeleton dancers, played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan.

“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage will also lend his voice to the special. Sketch creators Day, Moynihan and Streeter Seidell will have voiceover roles as well. Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows’ Eve, the special centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way. The half-hour special will air on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.

“It’s scary how quickly the original ‘SNL’ sketch caught on, and we’re thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going,” said George Cheeks, president of business operations and late night programming for NBC Entertainment and Universal Television.

First Look At Hallmark’s Star Wars Storytellers Ornaments

For a Star Wars fan, the only thing cooler than a regular Star Wars ornament might be one that lights up. And maybe has sound effects a dialogue clips. And wouldn’t it be amazing if this dream Star Wars ornament could interact with other Star Wars ornaments, telling a story?

Well, Hallmark’s Star Wars tree-decorating dreams are coming true.

Introducing Star Wars Storytellers, a new line of seven Star Wars Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. Launching with three ornaments in 2017 — Death Star and Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter on July 15, followed by X-Wing Starfighter on October 7, with two to come in both 2018 and 2019 — they’re a beautiful mix of design and tech ingenuity.

Each ornament lights up and plays sound on its own, but put two or more together and they actually tell the story of Star Wars: A New Hope. Pressing a button on the ornaments sends out a signal syncing nearby pieces; this triggers a performance, including coordinated light and sound. The more ornaments you have, the more dynamic the performance. In total, all seven ornaments can perform five major moments from the movie, and there are an incredible 127 possible story combinations. To borrow a phrase from Darth Vader, it’s most impressive.

Part of the Emmy Award- and Annie Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoons, the holiday special includes appearances by Uncle Scrooge McDuck, nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Gus Goose and Santa Claus, among others. It also features a flashback to Mickey’s childhood when he dashed through a Dickensian town pulled on a sleigh by Pluto (as a puppy), greeting townsfolk in a British accent.

Original songs in the special include the jazzy and warm “Joy, O It’s Christmas Time” performed by Mickey wearing a retro sweater vest and hat, and a show-stopping spectacular performed by Mickey and Donald (and featuring Minnie and Goofy), “Jing-a-Ling-a-Ling.”

Emmy Award winner Paul Rudish is the executive producer and supervising director; Todd Popp is the line producer; Alonso Ramirez Ramos and Dave Wasson are the directors. The music is by Christopher Willis. Jenny Gase-Baker and Joseph Holt are the art directors and Illya Owens is the editor. The story was written by Darrick Bachman.
