Mondo Gallery Presents – Heroes In A Half Shell: A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Celebration

This month Mondo is stoked to invite TMNT fans to celebrate everyone’s favorite wise-cracking, pizza-obsessed crime fighters and their cast of heroic allies and evil arch enemies in their next gallery show, Heroes in a Half Shell: A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Celebration!

The gallery show kicks off with two events – both are free and open to the public. The opening night reception will be held Friday, August 17 from 7:00 – 10:00 PM, followed by a special TMNT Family Day party on Saturday, August 18, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM featuring pizza (of course!) and other TMNT-inspired treats, face painting, a photo booth, and other fun activities!

Following these events, the show will run during regular gallery hours, Tuesdays – Saturdays from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM, through August 25. Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe Street in Austin, TX.

“We’ve worked with Nickelodeon a number of times in the past, and we’ve always loved making TMNT posters, but this is our first time really diving into the depth and breadth of the property,” said Mondo Co-Founder and Creative Director Mitch Putnam. We’re honored that a handful of our favorite artists feel as passionately about pizza eating, skateboarding turtles as we do. See you there!”

Mondo Gallery Announces Phantom City Creative’s Batman: The Animated Series Art Show Opening March 9, 2018

Mondo is flipping the switch on the bat signal during South by Southwest with a spectacular gallery show featuring the Caped Crusader with limited edition screen prints from Phantom City Creative’s Justin Erickson.

The show will highlight Batman: The Animated Series, one of the most celebrated incarnations of Gotham’s Dark Knight. The opening reception will be at Friday, March 9 from 6 – 10pm and will be on display until March 12. The Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX.

Additionally, Mondo is calling all Robins, Batgirls, and Nightwings for a special “Batman Family Day” on Saturday, March 10 from 10am – Noon. Kids and parents can join the Caped Crusader on his quest to protect Gotham, paint faces, and more family activities. Baked goods from Zucchini Kill, and coffee will be served.

Batman has seen many incarnations of his nearly 80-year history at DC Comics, and one of the most beloved interpretations by fans was seen in Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995). Following the success of Tim Burton’s film adaptation of the character, Warner Bros. Animation brought Batman into a gorgeous and timeless art deco version of Gotham City, using villains from the entire run of the DC hero’s history, and a few new ones, like Harley Quinn, who made her debut appearance on the show in 1992. Bruce Timm, & Eric Radomski, along with writing of Paul Dini, crafted arguably one of the most iconic versions of the Dark Knight to date.

“For me Batman: The Animated Series is the best on screen version of Batman by far. The show featured the best Batman/Bruce Wayne, the best Gotham, the best villains, the best everything. Bruce Timm, Eric Radomski and their creative teams made something incredible that could be light hearted and fun to dark and tragic without missing a beat. I hope what we’ve done with this gallery is a worthy tribute to everything they created. Kevin Conroy is Batman,” said artist Justin Erickson.

In addition to new posters available at the gallery, Mondo’s upcoming line of Batman: The Animated Series 1/6 scale figures will be on display.

Mondo Announces Jason Edmiston’s Eyes Without A Face 2 Gallery Show

Jason Edmiston returns to the Mondo Gallery with a huge collection of original art for Eyes Without A Face 2, showcasing 100 new acrylic paintings and preliminary pencils of iconic pop culture eyes from movies, TV, comics, games and more. Presented in life-sized proportions, sizes range from the peepers of tiny toy people to the fiery orbs of snarling behemoths. Created over a period of six months, the show boasts Jason’s largest painting ever, at 8 1/2 feet tall, and 22 feet long. It is only part of what Edmiston promises to be his most engaging show yet.

“I’ve always appreciated the challenge of capturing the essence of a character with just the bare essentials, and most of the time it comes down the eyes. The expression of a subject correctly captured can breed emotion in the viewer, and subtleties can imply volumes. Keeping with the series, these portraits are all cropped to a 3:1 landscape ratio, as if you’re viewing these characters through a slot in a door to an exclusive club. I’m sure folks that attend the show will find it to be my most arresting gallery experience to date. Eyes will surround you in 360 degrees, and possibly overwhelm as they stare back at you. I’m working hard to make sure attendees will have a visceral reaction and really enjoy the experience,”

You can check out Edmiston’s show for yourself when it arrives at Austin’s Mondo Gallery Feb. 9-17.
