Mondo 80 Years of Batman Show Online Release (Part 3) Information

Tomorrow Mondo will have the final drop of remaining prints from their 80 Years of Batman gallery show. This week they’ll shift their focus on the more modern era of the Bat as they highlight comics from the last 30 years of Batman history. In 1989, Mike Mignola and Brian Augustyn crafted what would retroactively become the first DC Elseworlds title with Gotham By Gaslight. Featuring a 19th century Batman taking on Jack the Ripper, the art is brilliantly handled by the legendary Mike Mignola. Mondo will also have posters for two key ’90s stories including Kelley Jones’ iconic cover of Bane breaking the Bat from Batman 497 and Tim Sale’s incredible art for The Long Halloween. Finally, they’ll have some awesome posters for the more recent additions to Batman’s comic legacy including Greg Capullo’s art for the New 52 reboot (and the start of a seminal run with Scott Snyder), as well as a truly gorgeous celebration of Batman and his completely unmatched Rogues Gallery by the late Darwyn Cooke. Lastly, there will be a poster for the current Rebirth era of books featuring David Finch’s absolutely beautiful cover art of the Bat and the Cat for Batman 24.

Please follow Mondo on Twitter for the on sale announcement. These posters will be available online at a random time on Tuesday, June 11th.

Mondo’s 80 Years of Batman Show Online Release (Part 2) Info

Tomorrow Mondo will release part 2 of remaining posters from their 80 Years of Batman gallery show. This week they’re shining the Bat signal on several truly quintessential pieces of Batman covers from the ’70s and ’80s including revelatory artwork by titans of the industry including Neal Adams, Jim Aparo, Frank Miller, Todd McFarlane, and Dave McKean. Moving away from the lighter, more kid-friendly adventure comics of the ’50s and ’60s, Batman was returned to the more hardened “Dark Knight” vigilante we mostly associate his character with. This is largely due to the contributions from many of the artists mentioned above as well as writers Dennis O’Neil, Jim Starlin, Grant Morrison, and David Vern Reed.

These are some of the best covers in all of Batman history and Mondo is proud to celebrate the art as big as possible as beautifully printed silkscreen posters.

These posters will be available tomorrow June 4th at a random time via mondotees.com. Please follow Mondo on Twitter for the on sale announcement.

Mondo Gallery Presents: 80 Years of Batman Show

The Dark Knight returns to the Mondo Gallery this May with a brand new show eight decades in the making! The “80 Years of Batman” gallery show will celebrate the history of the caped crusader, along with his allies and infamous rogue gallery of villains, with 18 classic, iconic and fan-favorite Batman comic book cover images produced as screenprinted posters.

Opening night for “80 Years of Batman” will be held Friday, May 17 from 7 – 10PM, and the show will run through May 25 during regular gallery hours (12PM – 6PM, Tuesday to Saturday). Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe St., Austin, TX.

“For most of my life I’ve been enamored with Batman. His rogues. His world. His look. It’s just about as perfect as you can get,” says Eric Garza, Mondo Creative Director. “It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I became enthralled with the artists who have lent their talents to drawing old Bats. From campy pulp detective to hardened Dark Knight, so many brilliant artists have added to the allure and majesty of the Caped Crusader. To celebrate 80 monumental years and the incredible comics legacy of the Batman, we’ve mined the Batcave for our favorite and most iconic Batman comic book covers. We are proud to share them with the world as beautifully produced screenprinted posters. Long live the Bat.”
