Mondo Gallery Announces The Art of Laurent Durieux Part Two Opening On November 9th

Mondo Gallery has announced The Art of Laurent Duriex Part Two opening on November 9, 2018.

Laurent Durieux is a celebrated illustrator and graphic artist from Brussels, who is responsible for some of Mondo’s most memorable works of pop art, including a 2013 poster of Jaws.

Durieux had this to say about the upcoming show:

“I’m pretty sure people are expecting me to raise the bar a little higher than for my first 2014 solo exhibition at Mondo,” Durieux stated. “I don’t know if I succeeded in doing that but I did my very best to hopefully meet those expectations. Cherry on top, I also had the immense honor to have been able to work on some of the best properties in popular culture, some of which have only been made available for me, which is not only very humbling but also an amazing sign of confidence in my artistry. I truly can’t wait for everyone to see this 7 months labor of love.”

The opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, November 9 from 7:00 – 10:00pm at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX (4115 Guadalupe St). The show will run through Saturday, November 17.

Mondo Gallery Presents: Francesco Francavilla’s Schermoscuro

Mondo is excited to announce that they’ll be hosting a special one-weekend gallery show featuring the horror-themed original drawings of Francesco Francavilla! The opening reception will be on Friday, October 26 from 7:00 – 10:00 PM. The show will run through Sunday, October 28.

“Horror is a huge passion of mine. For that reason, every year I like to get in the Halloween mood by drawing tributes to some of my favorite horror movies or subjects, some more famous and some less known,” said artist Francesco Francavilla. “When Mondo invited me to put together another gallery show it was a no brainer. I’ve always wanted to do a horror-themed show and the idea to have all these originals celebrating the dark and macabre framed on the Mondo gallery walls and just in time for Halloween was just too good to pass up. Regarding the name for the show, I titled it Schermoscuro, an Italian word I made up from Schermo and Scuro which means literally Dark Screen – as in horror movies – since most of my work in the show, for the original art, is in black and white.”

Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam said, “Francesco has been working on a large collection of horror-themed drawings for quite a while now, and we’re honored that he’s chosen the Mondo gallery to share them with the world. If you’re into horror films and the iconography associated with them, this show is for you.”

Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe St., Austin, TX 78751. This show is FREE and open to the public.

Mondo Announces Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years Gallery Show Opening On October 12, 2018

Mondo Gallery is thrilled to announce Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years, an epic celebration of the twenty films to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Featuring new contributions from some of Mondo’s most sought after artists as well as previously released pieces on display, the show promises to be one of the mightiest in Mondo Gallery history.

“As a devourer of pop culture with a heavy lean on movies and comics, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the ultimate dessert,” said Mondo Creative Director Eric Garza. “What Marvel Studios has accomplished over the last ten years is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve given us heroes that are big and small, mighty and cosmic while telling incredible stories that are often sweepingly epic while at the same time nuanced and personal. We are incredibly excited to celebrate ten years of monumental filmmaking and characters courtesy of the mighty Marvel Studios. Make Mine Marvel!”

The show postcard above reveals César Moreno’s print for the first Iron Man. The striking image highlights an iconic moment of the MCU’s first hero building his first suit, laying a foundation for dozens of characters to eventually join Earth’s (and the Galaxy’s) mightiest heroes in the greatest interconnected universe of films in cinematic history.

Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years kicks off with an opening night reception on Friday, October 12th from 5PM – 10PM. The celebration continues with a Family Day party the following morning (10/13) from 10AM – 12PM, which will include face painting, family photos ops, coffee & baked goods, and more! Costumes encouraged!

The show will be open during regular gallery hours, Tuesday – Saturday from 12PM – 6PM, through October 20.

We’re honored that a handful of our favorite artists feel as passionately about pizza eating, skateboarding turtles as we do. See you there!”

Mondo Announces Batman: The Animated Series – Mr. Freeze 1/6 Scale Figure

Continuing Mondo’s Batman: The Animated Series 1/6 Scale Figure line, they’re very proud to bring their Mr. Freeze to you in all his melancholy glory. First introduced in the Emmy-winning episode ‘Heart of Ice’, Mr. Freeze quickly became one of the favorite villains in BTAS. Once considered one of the lesser villains of The Dark Knight’s rogue gallery, it was this episode that changed Freeze’s origins to one of tragedy and revenge. It proved so popular, that the character’s origin was changed in the comic to match it.

The Mr. Freeze 1/6 Scale Figure stays true to the animated television classic, sculpted to match the iconic style of the show and with a paint scheme evoking the bold, graphic look of an animated cel. Featuring approximately 28 points of articulation, multiple switch-out hands, heads, accessories, and a Bat Symbol figure stand, Mr. Freeze is ready to extract cold vengeance on you and your collection.
