Check Out The Third Teaser Trailer For The YouTube Red Series Cobra Kai

A third teaser trailer for Cobra Kai, a YouTube Red 10-episode half-hour comedy series set 30 years after The Karate Kid Part III, has been released. The original Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio, reprises his role as Daniel LaRusso to face off once again with his rival Johnny Lawrence, played once again by William Zabka.

Long after Daniel-san triumphed over Johnny in the All Valley Karate Tournament, both martial artists have grown up and gone on to live different lives. With Mr. Miyagi’s life lessons, Daniel has found personal success in his own family and career as a car dealer. Johnny, however, has fallen on hard times. Seeking to reclaim what glory he had from the past, Johnny reopens the infamous karate dojo that he once ruled as its ace student, and Daniel is having none of it.

Cobra Kai also stars Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood), Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor), Courtney Henggeler (Mom) and Mary Mouser (Freakish). Guest starring in the show is esteemed Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor Ed Asner.

Writing the series are Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar). They will also be executive producing along with Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett. Hurwitz and Schlossberg take on directing duties.

Watch out for Cobra Kai on YouTube Red later this year.

We Need To Make This Steamboat Willie LEGO Set A Reality

As classic Disney fans, we’re obsessed with all things Steamboat Willie—which is why we’re loving the latest LEGO Ideas submission.

If you aren’t familiar with LEGO Ideas, it’s a program that lets fans of the building blocks pitch their own design to the company. A model needs to be created, photographed, and submitted—alongside a convincing proposal as to why the set should become an official LEGO product.

Sounds cool, right? What’s even more exciting is that one of the latest proposals is inspired by the beloved Mickey short. The creator of this set argued his (convincing) case:

“Steamboat Willie is the first fully synchronized sound cartoon directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. It was the debut of Mickey Mouse in a cartoon, the first to be distributed and the third to be produced,” he says. “So as an animator and a LEGO fan I’d like to pay my respect to that marvelous production, which…inspired a lot of talented artists.”

Can’t argue with that!

This set, which will include 156 bricks, needs to receive 10,000 votes before it has the chance to be reviewed by the company and approved as a new LEGO set. As of this post, the set has received 6,000 votes. With over 160 more days to go, we’re sure with the help of both Disney and LEGO fans, we can make this set a reality.

Just visit LEGO Ideas and vote for this brilliant creation!

DC Launches New Publishing Imprint DC Black Label

DC Black Label, a new publishing imprint from DC Entertainment, gives premier talent the opportunity to expand upon the canon of DC’s iconic Super Hero comic book characters with unique, standalone stories that are outside of the current DC Universe continuity. An all-star lineup of creative teams will craft their own personal definitive DC stories in the tradition of compelling literary works like Batman: The Killing Joke, DC: The New Frontier and Watchmen.

“Many of our perennially best-selling, critically acclaimed books were produced when we unleashed our top talent on standalone, often out-of-continuity projects featuring our most iconic characters, a prime example being Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns,” explains publisher Jim Lee. “Creating DC Black Label doubles down on our commitment to working with all-star talent and trusting them to tell epic, moving stories that only they can tell with the highest levels of creative freedom.”

DC Black Label makes its publishing debut with the previously announced Superman: Year One saga from legendary author Frank Miller and artist John Romita Jr. The three-part prestige series will hit shelves August 2018. John Ridley’s The Other History of The DC Universe, announced in January, will be published under the new imprint as well. And Kelly Sue DeConnick (Bitch Planet) joins DC Black Label for her first major work with the company, alongside artist Phil Jimenez, with Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons.

Each DC Black Label series will have a unique format and release schedule to best serve the story and creative vision. In addition, the new imprint will be brought to life with a stylized new logo, evoking the sense of sophistication fans can expect in these new series.

“DC Black Label offers leading writers and artists of any industry the opportunity to tell their definitive DC stories without being confined to canon,” explains executive editor Mark Doyle. “We are carefully crafting each series to fit the vision of the creative team. All of these creators are masters of their craft. I’m psyched to be working on a Wonder Woman story with Kelly Sue and Phil, helping to bring John’s vision of The Other History of The DC Universe to life and reuniting with some of the greatest Batman talents in the industry.”

The following books round out the first wave of DC Black Label titles:

Superman: Year One from Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: The Dark Knight: Master Race) and John Romita Jr. All-Star Batman, Superman)

A groundbreaking, definitive treatment of Superman’s classic origin story in honor of his 80th anniversary. This story details new revelations that reframe the Man of Steel’s most famous milestones—from Kal-El’s frantic exile from Krypton, to Clark Kent’s childhood in Kansas, to his inevitable rise to become the most powerful and inspiring superhero of all time.

Batman: Last Knight On Earth from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, the creative team behind Dark Knights: Metal

Batman wakes up in a desert. He doesn’t know what year it is or how The Joker’s head is alive in a jar beside him, but it’s the beginning of a quest unlike anything the Dark Knight has undertaken before. In this strange future, villains are triumphant and society has liberated itself from the burden of ethical codes. Fighting to survive while in search of answers, Bruce Wayne uncovers the truth about his role in this new world—and begins the last Batman story ever told.

Batman: Damned from Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo, the creative team behind Joker

On a deserted Gotham City bridge, a body is found. Whispers spread the news: Joker is dead. But is this a dream come true or a nightmare being born? Now Batman and DC’s outlaw magician John Constantine must hunt the truth through a Gotham City hellscape. The city’s supernatural recesses are laced with hints about a killer’s identity, but the Dark Knight’s descent into horror will test his sanity and the limits of rationality, as he must face a horror that doesn’t wear a mask.

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons from Kelly Sue DeConnick (Bitch Planet) and Phil Jimenez (Infinite Crisis)

A Homeric epic of the lost history of the Amazons and Queen Hippolyta’s rise to power. Featuring monsters and myths, this three-book saga spans history from the creation of the Amazons to the moment Steve Trevor washes up on the shores of Paradise Island, changing our world forever.

Wonder Woman: Diana’s Daughter (working title) from Greg Rucka (Wonder Woman, Batwoman)

It’s been 20 years since the world stopped looking to the skies for hope, help, and inspiration. Now the world keeps its eyes down, and the powers that have risen have every intention of keeping things that way. Amongst a scattered, broken resistance, a young woman seeks to reclaim what has been forgotten, and on the way will learn the truth about herself, her heritage, and her destiny.

The Other History of The DC Universe from John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, The American Way)

A compelling literary series analyzing iconic DC moments and charting sociopolitical gains through the perspectives of DC Super Heroes who come from traditionally disenfranchised groups, including John Stewart, Extraño, Vixen, Supergirl, Katana and Rene Montoya, among others. At its core, the story focuses on the lives of those behind the costumes, and their endeavors to overcome real-world issues. It isn’t about saving the world, it’s about having the strength to simply be who you are.

Watch The Grinch Trailer

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have debuted The Grinch trailer.

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Doctor Strange) lends his voice to the infamous Grinch, who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. With a cave rigged with inventions and contraptions for his day-to-day needs, the Grinch only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food.

Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh.

Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who—a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer—plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch’s more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all?

Directed by Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is adapted from Seuss’ book by Michael LeSieur. It is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy and Scott Mosier, and executive produced by Audrey Geisel and Chris Renaud.

The animated film based on the Dr. Seuss favorite hits the big screen on November 9, 2018.

The Sopranos creator David Chase is going back to the world of his Emmy award-winning HBO series with a ’60s set prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark. The project is set up at Warner Bros’ New Line Cinema.

Jon Favreau To Executive Produce & Write Live-Action Star Wars Series

Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars galaxy having played roles in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau is thrilled to be returning to the Star Wars galaxy: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Disney’s collaborations with Favreau extend back a decade, when he helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and as an executive producer of the Iron Man and Avengers films for Marvel Studios. For Disney, he directed and produced the massively successful The Jungle Book, which won an Academy Award for its groundbreaking visual effects. He is currently in production on Disney’s highly anticipated reimagining of The Lion King, set for release in 2019.

The untitled Star Wars live-action series does not yet have a release date.
