Amazon Studios Acquires Borat Sequel, Sets October Premiere

Borat is back. Sacha Baron Cohen has filmed a sequel to his 2006 film “Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” that Amazon plans to release in October before the Presidential Election.

The streaming giant confirmed Tuesday that it has acquired worldwide rights to the film. It’s reportedly titled: “Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan.”

Reports have steadily accumulated about the project throughout the summer as it was filmed in secret during the pandemic. In early July, Rudy Giuliani called the police on Cohen after an interview in which Cohen emerged in character. Giuliani told Page Six: “This guy comes running in wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit. It was a pink bikini, with lace.”

In June, Cohen appeared at a far-right rally in Olympia, Washington, posing as a sponsor of the event. He led the crowd in a racially charged singalong.

Cohen originated the character of Borat Sagdiyev, a fictional Kazakh journalist, on his series “Da Ali G Show.” The 2006 film, directed by Larry Charles, grossed $262 million worldwide and was nominated for best adapted screenplay.

Watch The Truth Seekers Trailer

Amazon Prime has released the first trailer for its upcoming comedy series Truth Seekers. The show reunites longtime collaborators Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Nick Frost (Fighting with My Family), who have worked together on a number of terrific projects including Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and The World’s End.

While details surrounding Pegg’s character Dave are currently unknown, Frost will portray Gus, one of two members of a ghost-hunting duo that uncover and film paranormal sighting across the U.K. who stakes out haunted churches, abandoned hospitals and similar locations using homemade ghost-detecting gadgets. The pair have been working together onscreen for over 20 years, beginning with the cult hit TV series Spaced (co-written by Pegg, directed by Edgar Wright), which ran for two seasons on Channel 4. Pegg, Frost, and Wright expanded their partnership on the big screen with the Cornetto Trilogy, consisting of 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, 2007’s Hot Fuzz and 2013’s The World’s End, as well as the non-Wright American feature Paul, which was co-written by Pegg and Frost.
