Mondo Announces “The Bounty” Timed Edition Giclee Print By Rory Kurtz

Thank the Ancients for Jon Favreau. Not only is he one of the key figures responsible for launching the MCU and the filmmaker that gifted us with one of the best modern Christmas classics, but he is a bonafide Star Wars master and one of the primary forces behind the excellent series: The Mandalorian.

Set sometime between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order, the show follows a lone warrior and bounty hunter as he navigates the outer reaches of an all too familiar galaxy. The show proudly wears its influences on its armor – from Leone’s Westerns to Samurai epics – and we fell in love with every gritty detail from week to week. From Ludwig Göransson’s incredible score to Pedro Pascal’s stoic performance as the titular Mandalorian, everything just sort of clicked in the best way. But there was one character who simply transcended it all: The Child.

Together with Acme Archives, Mondo has teamed up with Rory Kurtz on a new poster for this instantly iconic new character to Star Wars lore. Titled “The Bounty,” Rory has beautifully brought life to one of The Mandalorian’s most captivating new characters, and will be available as a Timed Edition starting Friday, February 21 at 11AM CT and running through Monday, February 24 until 11:59PM CT. In addition to the timed edition release, Mondo will also offer a limited edition 5″x7″ graphite variant of Rory’s artwork.

From Rory:

“I can’t say exactly when my feelings toward The Child turned from hesitant curiosity, to full on fan obsession. I had started this small original drawing for the sheer fun of it, just two or three episodes into The Mandalorian, and before even finishing it, I was just as ecstatic for The Child as everyone else seemed to be. Something about the child’s original trilogy design, and live real world puppeteering just brings so much more to the character than another forgettable CGI creation. That, and the certain mysterious understanding in it’s giant glassy eyes. The entire series is such a great addition to Star Wars canon, and season two can’t come soon enough.”

Hasbro Unveils Line of Baby Yoda Toys

Hasbro, which holds the master toy license for Star Wars-branded toys, has finally revealed its first collection of figures based on everyone’s favorite character from “The Mandalorian” — Baby Yoda.

While the cute creature has been dubbed Baby Yoda, because of his resemblance to the iconic “Star Wars” character, retailers, manufacturers and Disney itself call the character “The Child.”

Starting Thursday, fans will be able to preorder four new Baby Yoda toys. The toys are expected to arrive in spring 2020. The Child has become a social media sensation since debuting on Disney+ a month ago.

Keeping “Baby Yoda” a secret has meant that toys, plush and other items haven’t been available to purchase right away, disappointing eager holiday shoppers. It’s why most of the products currently available are from apparel companies or are made with the same, simplistic photo from the show.

As part of Hasbro’s Black Series collection, high-quality collectibles, there will be a 1.12-inch figure of The Child with multiple points of articulation. It will come with a small bone broth cup, ball toy and Sorgan frog.

There is a series of 2.2-inch collectible figures that have The Child in a variety of poses, including eating a Sorgan frog, sleeping and playing with the silver knob from the Mandalorian’s ship.

A 6.5-inch figure will also be available.

Hasbro has also created a talking plush toy that can be squeezed to activate several cooing sounds.

Baby Yoda Merchandise To Debut Ahead of Holiday Shopping Season

Fans of the breakout character from the Disney Plus series “The Mandalorian” have been surprised that there was no merchandise pegged to the character available upon the launch of the show, given that the Christmas shopping season is rapidly approaching.

Disney is preparing to release a number of products all tied to the character, who is officially referred to simply as The Child at this point. Those products include apparel and accessories and will be available within days, with two T-shirts (see below) already for sale on Amazon. Amazon, Kohls, Target, Macys, Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Zazzle will all carry the upcoming merch, as will Disney Stores, shopDisney, and Disney theme parks. In addition, fans will be able to pre-order toys and a plush toy sometime in the next few weeks. More products are expected to debut within months.

The initial lack of merchandise is said to have been a creative decision, with “Mandalorian” creator Jon Favreau saying that he asked Disney to hold off marketing the character in order to preserve the surprise at the end of the show’s first episode.

“I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that,” Favreau said in a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. “So they really back us up. We really wanted to have it be that you had to watch it yourself, so that every time you watch the show, there are new twists and secrets that come out. That requires a lot of restraint from the people who are footing the bill, saying they’re gonna hold back on certain things so that the public doesn’t know ahead of time. Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.”
