Banksy’s Venice in Oil

During the Venice Biennale 2019 art exhibition, controversial street artist Bansky stealthily set up a stall along artist’s row to feature multi-panel artwork of the city’s famous canals.

As of late, however, these gorgeous waterways have become inundated with giant cruise ships that bring in tourists from all over the world but take away from the charm of the city. Banksy’s reflected the scope of this problem in a piece he called “Venice in Oil”.

Banksy Painting ‘Self-Destructs’ Moments After Being Sold For $1.4 Million At Auction

Yesterday Sotheby’s in London held an auction for the iconic Banksy painting “Girl With Balloon (2006)” and as soon the auction completed for £1,042,000 ($1.4 million), the special “artist’s frame” created by Banksy that held the painting proceeded to shred the famous work of art.

After the incident, Alex Branczik, Sotheby’s senior director and head of contemporary art in Europe, was quoted as saying “It appears we just got Banksy-ed”. Sotheby’s issued a statement about situation: “We have talked with the successful purchaser who was surprised by the story. We are in discussion about next steps.”

New Banksy Exhibition Dismaland Pokes Fun At Disneyland

1

British graffiti artist Banksy has taken satirical aim at Disneyland with a new theme park set to open in the U.K. this weekend.

Dismaland, built over an unused open-air swimming pool in the seaside town of Weston-super-mare, is billed as a “bemusement park” and “the U.K.’s most disappointing new visitor attraction,” and makes numerous artistic swipes at the cultural and political establishment. Alongside works by Banksy himself, there are pieces by artists like Damien Hirst and Jenny Holzer.

Grumpy guards are set to welcome guests while inside there’s a decrepit version of Disney’s classic Cinderella castle (behind a warped model of Ariel, from Disney’s Little Mermaid), plus a pool with tiny model boats full of refugees and a grim reaper sitting in a bumper car. Surly stewards wearing Mickey Mouse ears are also on hand to offer insincere-sounding welcomes.

“I guess it’s a theme park whose big theme is — theme parks should have bigger themes,” Banksy said in a statement, adding that Dismaland was a “festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism.”

The exhibition, which Banksy described as a “family theme park unsuitable for children,” is his first in the U.K. since 2009’s Banksy v Bristol Museum, which drew more than 300,000 visitors.

Dismaland is due to run for six weeks.

Banksy Set Up a Booth In Central Park to Anonymously Sell His Original Artwork For $60 Per Piece

STALL-TIGHT-private

Elusive street artist Bansky is currently creating art around New York City for his month-long Better Out than In street show.

As a sneaky stunt, Banksy set up a booth in Central Park over the weekend and had an elderly gentleman anonymously sell his original artwork for $60 each.

Banksy pieces usually sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. He also captured footage of the sale from the early morning until evening to show off the small number of purchases.
