Subterranean Press Announces The Girl On The Porch By Richard Chizmar

Subterranean Press announces a new novella, The Girl on the Porch, by New York Times bestseller Richard Chizmar.

From New York Times bestselling author Richard Chizmar, author of Gwendy’s Button Box (with Stephen King) and The Long Way Home, comes a thriller that will forever change the way you look at your neighbors and best friends…

When the Tuckers’ next door neighbor mentions someone rang their doorbell late the previous night, Sarah and Kenny Tucker check their home’s security camera and discover something shocking: the doorbell ringer also visited their house and it wasn’t a teenager playing a prank, but instead a terrified young woman with a shackle hanging from her right wrist. She anxiously pressed the doorbell again and again, glancing over her shoulder as if someone was coming for her, before giving up and taking off into the dark.

Almost overnight, she becomes known as The Girl on the Porch—and she’s everywhere. There are updates on all the local networks, national coverage on CNN and Fox News, and the video goes viral on social media. Before long, everyone has seen the harrowing security camera footage.

Kenny and Sarah figure it’s only a matter of time before someone recognizes the woman, but as the days pass and no one comes forward, odd things begin to transpire around the Tucker family: a man intensely watches them at a restaurant and then vanishes, fresh footprints appear in the garden next to their house where no one should have been, a neighbor’s pet is viciously killed and mutilated, and a mysterious man has started following their daughter Natalie…

A rollercoaster ride of compelling twists and turns, The Girl on the Porch demonstrates why Stephen King says Richard Chizmar’s writing is “powerful” and Robert McCammon calls his work “hard-hitting, spooky, suspenseful, harrowing, and heartbreaking.”

The book will be limited to 1,500 signed copies and cost $35. You can order it HERE.

Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds: The First Official Stranger Things Novel

A mysterious lab. A sinister scientist. A secret history. If you think you know the truth behind Eleven’s mother, prepare to have your mind turned Upside Down in this thrilling prequel to the hit show Stranger Things.

It’s the summer of 1969, and the shock of conflict reverberates through the youth of America, both at home and abroad. As a student at a quiet college campus in the heartland of Indiana, Terry Ives couldn’t be farther from the front lines of Vietnam or the incendiary protests in Washington.

But the world is changing, and Terry isn’t content to watch from the sidelines. When word gets around about an important government experiment in the small town of Hawkins, she signs on as a test subject for the project, code-named MKULTRA. Unmarked vans, a remote lab deep in the woods, mind-altering substances administered by tight-lipped researchers . . . and a mystery the young and restless Terry is determined to uncover.

But behind the walls of Hawkins National Laboratory—and the piercing gaze of its director, Dr. Martin Brenner—lurks a conspiracy greater than Terry could have ever imagined. To face it, she’ll need the help of her fellow test subjects, including one so mysterious the world doesn’t know she exists—a young girl with unexplainable superhuman powers and a number instead of a name: 008.

Amid the rising tensions of the new decade, Terry Ives and Martin Brenner have begun a different kind of war—one where the human mind is the battlefield.

Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds: The first Official Stranger Things Novel by Gwenda Bond will be released on February 5, 2019 and can be ordered HERE.

Suntup Editions To Publish Fine Press Edition of Rosemary’s Baby By Ira Levin With Exclusive Introduction By Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele

Suntup Editions, publisher of fine limited edition books and art prints, is delighted to announce the upcoming publication of Ira Levin’s classic novel Rosemary’s Baby, with an exclusive introduction by Academy Award winning writer/director Jordan Peele.

One of the bestselling horror novels of all-time, Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin is considered by many to be the “grand daddy” of horror fiction. Selling 4 million copies upon its publication in 1967, the novel’s success launched a new wave of books in the horror genre, while critics heralded it “one of the most perfectly crafted thrillers ever written.” Only one year after the novel’s release, Rosemary’s Baby was adapted into an Academy Award winning motion picture directed by Roman Polanski. Author Ira Levin called the film “the single most faithful adaptation of a novel ever to come out of Hollywood.”

Ira Levin

When Rosemary Woodhouse and her husband Guy, a struggling actor, move into a mysterious old apartment building in New York City, they are immediately greeted by elderly neighbors Roman and Minnie Castavet. Guy is quick to make friends with the eccentric pair, but Rosemary has reservations. Soon thereafter, Guy lands a major role, Rosemary becomes pregnant, and the strange neighbors begin taking a heightened interest in Rosemary’s welfare. As Rosemary’s suspicions grow, she finds herself isolated from her husband, and certain that the Castavets’ intentions are not at all what they seem.

In 2017, director Jordan Peele cited the novel Rosemary’s Baby among his greatest influences in writing Get Out for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, along with nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. Peele has written an introduction to Rosemary’s Baby exclusively for this edition.

This edition also features an afterword by Ira Levin, originally written for New American Library’s 2003 release.

Rosemary’s Baby will mark Suntup’s fourth book release.

The mission of the press is to publish finely crafted limited editions, by collaborating with some of today’s leading writers, artists, designers, printers and bookmakers to create an edition that is itself, an art object. By incorporating elements of the story into the design and production of the books, their editions offer a unique reading experience.

Stephen King Earned 27 Million Dollars in 2018

According to Forbes, Stephen King is the third highest paid author in 2018 earning $27 million. The king of horror sold 2.7 million domestic books, boosted by the success of the movie version of IT, adapted from his 1986 novel. King nearly doubled his earnings by collecting an eight-figure paycheck from the film, which grossed $700 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. The movie became the highest-grossing R-rated horror movie at the domestic box office, and the sequel, planned for next fall, could break that record again.

To formulate the rankings, Forbes looked at “all earnings estimates from June 1, 2017, through June 1, 2018. Figures are pretax; fees for agents, managers and lawyers are not deducted. Earnings estimates are based on data from NPD BookScan and Box Office Mojo, as well as interviews with industry insiders, including some of the authors themselves.”

This year’s top-earning authors are:

1. James Patterson ($86 million)
2. J.K. Rowling ($54 million)
3. Stephen King ($27 million)
4. John Grisham ($21 million)
5. Jeff Kinney ($18.5 million)
5. Dan Brown ($18.5 million)

Taschen Books Releases Rocky: The Complete Films

Rocky Balboa is the Philadelphian icon who took on the world and won. The original “Italian Stallion,” the gutsy fighter who rose above the odds to boxing glory, and a rags-to-riches legend in the business of making movies. Ever since Sylvester Stallone unleashed his impassioned title character in 1976, the resilient fighter has earned his place in history as a symbol of tenacity and courage and a legend of cinematic success.

The story of Rocky the movie is as exciting as that of its eponymous boxer. Shot on a tight budget, with the virtually unknown Stallone writing the script as well as taking on the lead role, it became a surprise overnight sensation, generating millions in box-office revenues, notching up three Oscar wins, and transforming Stallone into a global star as an actor, writer, and director. The Rocky phenomenon developed into a franchise of six films, including Rocky Balboa in 2006 and a further appearance in Creed (2015), for which Stallone was nominated for an Academy Award.

In collaboration with Sylvester Stallone and MGM, this Collector’s Edition, signed by Sylvester Stallone, brings you all the guts and all the glory of the complete Rocky story, right through to Creed. Copious images, including many on-set pictures from famed sports photographer Neil Leifer, come together with precious archival material from the Academy Library and MGM archive to reveal the making of an enduring action hero as much as a movie masterpiece. A foreword by Stallone and vintage interviews over the course of his career bring insight into the development of the hero and the franchise, as well as privileged access to the tenacity, spirit, and passion that characterized Rocky behind the scenes as much as on screen.

The book includes a print of Sylvester Stallone’s Finding Rocky (1975), a painting he completed before writing the script. It was, for Stallone, “the genesis of Rocky.” Also included is a facsimile of Sylvester Stallone’s handwritten notebook for Rocky (circa 1975), which details dialogue, scenes, and ideas for the film, as well as the original unused ending. Stallone: “This is where all the ideas were coming out and the way I would write them.”

Collector’s Edition (No. 51–1,976), numbered and signed by Sylvester Stallone, each with a print of Stallone’s painting Finding Rocky (1975) and a 36-page Rocky notebook facsimile.

Order HERE for $1,000.
