Suntup Editions Announces Their Latest Covers Collection Release – Needful Things (U.K.) By Steve Crisp

This month, Suntup Editions announces the second of three iconic covers from British artist Steve Crisp. Previously, Suntup published Crisp’s first U.K. edition cover of Skeleton Crew. Now, they present the penultimate Steve Crisp cover print, the artwork which graced the first U.K. edition of Needful Things.

Originally published in 1991, Needful Things was billed as “the last Castle Rock story.” Since 1991, King has returned to Castle Rock only a handful of times, including the short story “It Grows On You” (published in King’s 1993 collection Nightmares and Dreamscapes, which, according to King, serves as an epilogue to Needful Things) and the novella Elevation (2018). Needful Things remains one of the beloved works in King’s bibliography and serves as a sensational send-off to one of horror literature’s most famous fictional towns. For the first U.K. hardcover edition, Steve Crisp gives us a peek into the window of the dreaded store that is the title’s namesake. Now this iconic artwork can be enjoyed for the first time without cover text, as a beautifully printed giclée print.

All prints are hand-signed by Steve Crisp. Exclusively available through Suntup Editions for your private collection, and limited to just 50 signed copies per size, worldwide.

Suntup Editions To Release The Dark Half Paperback Covers Collection Print By Don Brautigam

Previously, Suntup Editions has published prints of Don Brautigam’s iconic cover art from The Running Man, The Stand, Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, and The Bachman Books.

This month, Suntup presents the final print in their series of Brautigam covers, the art from the first edition paperback of Stephen King’s The Dark Half.

Part of Don Brautigam’s genius as an artist was capturing the essence of a book while also creating imagery so eye-catching it practically leaps off the cover. The Dark Half is no exception as Brautigam uses the two sparrows to not only recall the novel’s famous presentiment, “The sparrows are flying again,” but to define King’s story of two halves creating the whole. Now, this cover art is available for the first time in its original form and without cover text.

Suntup Editions Announces The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger Covers Collection Print By Steve Stone

Suntup Editions announces The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger as their latest addition to The Covers Collection. This beautiful cover art from Steve Stone is the first in a series of four prints from the artist’s work on the 2003 Viking re-release of The Dark Tower series.

The Gunslinger (inspired by the Robert Browning poem, “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came”) was first published in hardback by Donald M. Grant in 1982, a collection of the five serialized stories Stephen King had previously published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction from October 1978 to November 1981. This was the beginning of a series of books that would become known as The Dark Tower, winning the hearts of Constant Readers for decades to come.

On June 23, 2003, Viking released a new version of the book, revised by Stephen King and including a new introduction from the author. The digital cover art by Steve Stone became instantly iconic, and was subsequently used for various other formats of the book’s release. Now this stunning depiction of Roland can be enjoyed for the first time without cover text, as a gorgeously printed giclée print.

All prints are hand-signed by Steve Stone. Exclusively available through Suntup Editions for your private collection, and limited to just 50 signed copies per size, worldwide.

Suntup Editions Announces Misery UK Covers Collection Print By Paul Bryn Davies

Suntup Editions announces their second print by artist Paul Bryn Davies in The Covers Collection. Last year, they had the honor of including Paul’s art from the first edition U.K. paperback cover of IT. This month, Suntup brings you his cover art from the first edition U.K. paperback of Misery. This iconic cover art can now be enjoyed for the very first time without cover text.

Stephen King’s novel Misery made its debut in June 1987, but it would not be released in paperback until 1988. Constant readers in the U.K. were treated to a very different kind of artwork upon the paperback release. Previous covers had featured either a typewriter, or a shadow of Annie across the wall, making Davies the artist who holds the distinction for first rendering Annie Wilkes.

One of the major differences between the 1990 film adaptation of Misery and the novel is the movie’s slow burn to discovering Annie’s insanity. In earlier parts of the movie, she is portrayed as wholesome, hospitable, and even demure, but from the very first pages of Stephen King’s novel, Paul Sheldon describes Annie Wilkes as “dangerously crazy… giving only one thing: a feeling of unease deepening steadily toward terror.” Davies depiction portrays the wide-eyed mania evident in Wilkes right from the start.

Suntup Editions Announces Covers Collection Gerald’s Game Print By Rob Wood

This month, Suntup Editions reveals their fifth print from artist Rob Wood. Previously, they published Rob’s artwork from Needful Things, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Four Past Midnight, and Dolores Claiborne. Now, Suntup is offering Rob’s beautiful art from the first edition of Gerald’s Game as our latest addition to The Covers Collection.

Gerald’s Game was the 31st book published by Stephen King, originally released in May 1992. The novel, along with the author’s other 1992 release, Dolores Claiborne, was originally conceived as part of a larger work to be entitled, In the Path of the Eclipse.

To create the visual required for the first edition cover art, Rob Wood built a faux bedroom set inside his home. After playing with several additional elements to help explain the story – alternate bed posts depicting two bodies entwined, a window in the background indicating the possibility of escape — the artist decided on a more simplistic approach. The cover would consist of only a bed with an ominous set of handcuffs hanging off the bedpost. As a result, this startling image became one of the most iconic in Stephen King cover history.

These prints are hand-signed by Rob Wood, who has also created two incredible Remarques which appear on the first 20 large prints. Six of these are available for purchase at the time of the release, so act fast on those. Remarques are allocated randomly.

Exclusively available through Suntup Editions for your private collection, and limited to just 50 copies per size, worldwide.
