The Beatles’ Abbey Road Crossing To Be Recreated At Hollywood And Vine On September 26

The city of Los Angeles will close down Vine St. at Hollywood Blvd. from 1-3:30 on Sept. 26 to recreate the Beatles’ Abbey Road Crossing.

That and other ceremonial festivities will take place adjacent to Hollywood’s famed Capitol Records tower the day before the release of “Abbey Road: Anniversary Edition,” a 50th anniversary box set including a newly remixed version of the album and previously unreleased outtakes from the 1969 sessions.

The crosswalk will be recreated with a non-slip heavy vinyl recreation of Abbey Road’s zebra crossing laid down over the existing Vine St. crosswalk, with an 8-foot tall double-sided backdrop of 4 panels (two per side) showing the ‘Abbey Road’ cover art photo without the Beatles in the image. There will be four Abbey Road zebra crossing + backdrop areas (two areas per side) for fans to take photos and videos.

Sir Patrick Stewart will provide the celebrity presence at the occasion, joined by L.A. city councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and Board of Public Works President Kevin James. Other attractions beyond the photo op will include a Beatles pop-up shop curated by Amoeba Music, food trucks, “Abbey Road” cupcakes and an unspecified “free, exclusive, commemorative takeaway item,” while supplies last.

The temporary crosswalk unveiling and a dedication for a permanent new City of Los Angeles sign at the Capitol tower will take place from 1-1:15, with the rest of the festivities going on till 3:30. The celebration takes place on the actual 50th anniversary date for the release of “Abbey Road”.

The Comic Con Museum Announces The Art of Shag Exhibit

The Comic Con Museum in San Diego is teaming up with Josh Agle, the prolific artist known as Shag, to present a look at his works, methods and career.  Imbued with a distinctive attitude and sly sense of humor the works of Shag blend Pop Culture, Tiki Culture and the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic to create unique pieces that are unmistakably of our time, but reminiscent of animation and commercial art from the fifties and sixties.

The exhibit will showcase originals, prints and a sampling of his books and merchandise created throughout his career in a gallery touched by the same wry and colorful sense of retro decadence that features so prominently in the pieces on display.

An exclusive Exhibit Preview event with Shag that benefits the Comic-Con Museum is scheduled for Friday, September 20.

Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, craft cocktails and live music from The Martini Kings while you mingle with Shag in a mid-century inspired lounge space. Tickets are $250 and include a signed limited-edition print, courtesy of The Shag Store and Shag himself.  Act fast, as tickets are extremely limited and will sell out very quickly! Order tickets HERE.

The exhibit is open, free to the public, from 10am – 4pm on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. The address is 2131 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101.

Apple Sends Out Media Invites For ‘It’s Show Time’ Event On March 25

Apple today sent out invites for a media event that will be held on Monday, March 25 at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park Campus. As with most Apple events, it will start at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time or 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The event features the tagline “It’s Show Time,” which is in line with rumors suggesting it will focus on services rather than hardware. Apple is expected to use the event to unveil its rumored Apple News service and a streaming TV service.

The Apple News service will add paid subscription options to Apple News, allowing Apple customers unlimited access to magazines and paywalled content from sites like The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and The New York Times for a $9.99 per month fee.

It’s not yet clear which news sites will be included, as Apple is said to be still negotiating financial terms with some news sites. Apple has asked for 50 percent of the revenue from the service. Magazines are on board with the fee, but news sites with independent revenue streams from their own subscribers are reluctant to jump on board.

As for the TV service, Apple is planning an announcement, but an actual launch is months off. Apple has more than two dozen original TV shows in the works, many of which have been cast, that will eventually debut through the streaming service.

Major stars that include Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, and Steve Carell, all of whom have roles in Apple shows, have been invited to attend the event.

According to an announcement posted on the main Apple website and the Events website, Apple will livestream the “It’s Show Time” event on its website and through the events app on the Apple TV.

Following the event, Apple will likely release the iOS 12.2 update that’s currently being beta tested in order to make the Apple News subscription service available.
