Taco Bell To Roll Out Breakfast Waffle Tacos Nationwide

Taco Bell has officially announced that the Mexican fast-food chain will debut a new breakfast menu nationwide on March 27, 2014.

“Fans already like to come to Taco Bell for lunch and dinner, and they share with us their love of late night,” Taco Bell President Brian Niccol said in the release. “Now they’re not just asking but telling us they want Taco Bell breakfast.”

Taco Bell has become known for its unique products that draw customers to their stores, most notably the Doritos Locos Tacos.

The company is hoping to create similar success with its breakfast menu, which include a Waffle Taco, an all-in-one A.M. Crunchwrap and Cinnabon Delights, and cinnamon and sugar donut holes. The waffle taco uses a waffle for the shell, wrapped around eggs, cheese and syrup on top with the choice of sausage or bacon. The A.M. Crunchwrap, similar to the classic Crunchwrap, is a breakfast twist of scrambled eggs, hash browns, melted cheese and bacon, sausage, or steak, wrapped up in a warm flour tortilla.

“We’re confident our breakfast will wake up customers’ morning routine,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Chris Brandt said in the release.

Along with increasing accessibility to stores and developing its mobile offerings, the breakfast menu is one of Taco Bell’s top priorities this year, said Niccol. “These key initiatives will continue momentum for the brand’s strong and growing relevance with millennials, while working toward the aggressive goal to double revenue and add 2,000 restaurants by 2022,” he stated in the release.

The plan to offer breakfast at Taco Bell has been in the works for a while.

The chain tested breakfast offerings as earlier 2012 but began final testing this past summer in Fresno, Calif., Omaha, Neb., and Chattanooga, Tenn.

The menu is currently served in more than 850 locations, but come late March, it will be available in about 5,500 restaurants.

Burger King New Fries: Lower Calorie, Crinkle-Cut ‘Satisfries’ Added To Menu

After unveiling its $1 French fry burger, Burger King isn’t done adding items to its menu. In an effort to add healthier options, BK announced its new lower calorie, crinkle-cut fries, “Satisfries,” on Monday.

“Satisfries” contain 190 calories and 8 grams of fat, which Burger King said is 30 percent fewer calories and 40 percent less fat than a serving of rival McDonald’s fries. The new fries have 270 calories, compared with 340 for a small order of regular fries.

The fries will hit Burger Kings on Tuesday at just 30 cents more than a regular order of French fries; “Satisfries” will cost $1.89 compared to $1.59 for regular fries.

“Satisfries” have fewer calories and less fat thanks to a new batter recipe and a crinkle-cut that doesn’t absorb as much oil in the frying process, the company said.

Burger King, though, said customers and fast food lovers alike will notice no difference in taste. The Daily Beast, which posted a review of the fries, agreed.

The impact of adding these fries will be huge since one in two Burger King customers order fries, for 56 million orders monthly. The move comes as consumer advocate groups pressure the U.S. food and beverage industry, especially fast-food chains, to offer healthier alternatives, since one-third of Americans are obese, Reuters reported.

Last month, Burger King unveiled its new “French Fry Burger,” costing $1 that consists of a standard burger topped with four French fries.

McDonald’s Introduces The Blitz Box

McDonald’s, the nation’s fast-food giant is offering a multi-person boxed meal in the Kansas City market — the first time it has sold such a meal in the United States.

The Blitz Box, which includes two Quarter Pounders with cheese, two medium fries and 10 Chicken McNuggets with dipping sauces, sells for $14.99.

In total, the combo, which is meant to feed more than one person, serves up 1.75 pounds of food totaling 2,370 calories, 120 grams of fat (34 grams of it saturated) and 4,580 milligrams of sodium.

The promotion that began Sept. 2, is scheduled to run through the entire football season, says Lisa McComb, a McDonald’s spokeswoman. If it’s a hit, it could expand nationwide.

In addition to the Blitz Box, McDonald’s is also in the process of rolling out a steak option on its breakfast sandwiches and its gearing up for a big fall push of its chicken wings.

And to make it all easier to buy, the company is reportedly testing a mobile payment app at its Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas, stores.

Burger King To Serve Up French Fry Burger

Burger King says it will start offering a “French Fry Burger” for $1, as it looks to fend off McDonald’s aggressive push for its Dollar Menu.

The Miami-based chain says the burger will be available Sept. 1 through the fall, as it looks to drum up sales and customer interest with cheap new concoctions.

The burger, which clocks in at 360 calories and 19 grams of fat, is a standard beef patty topped with the chain’s french fries along with all the fixings.

Wendys To Introduce New Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger On July 4, 2013

Wendy’s Co. The Dublin-based fast-food chain expects to be serving its highly anticipated Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger ($4.69 ) nationwide by July 4, 2013.

It will be offered all summer long.

The limited-time offer, which has been in the works for more than a year, is Wendy’s highest-testing burger to come through its product development pipeline since it recommitted to its development efforts in the last several years.

Described as a pub-style cheeseburger, the key feature is (obviously) the pretzel bun, made using the same process used to make soft pretzels. Other ingredients include a nine-green spring mix, red onion and tomatoes, both a warm cheddar cheese sauce and a slice of cheddar cheese, a sweet and smoky honey mustard sauce and thick, applewood-smoked bacon all on a quarter-pound burger.

Here Come The Wacky Drinks of Summer

Some things go hand-in-hand with summer: Sunburns. Tacky bikinis. And wacky drinks.

This summer is no exception – particularly in the wacky drink arena, with fast-food giants rolling out their most unusual beverages of the year. Summer is the busy season for the $175 billion fast-food industry, so this is when it works overtime to lure-in thirsty consumers hoping folks not only buy lots of high-margin drinks, but load up on food, too.

The trick: offer outside-the-box beverages. Like Sonic’s Peanut Butter & Bacon Milkshake; Arby’s upcoming Salted Caramel Shake or even Dunkin’ Donuts’ Mint Chocolate Chip Iced Coffee.

Check out the slide show HERE.

7-Eleven begins a national roll-out of Soda Shaq this week, offering a new line of four AriZona cream sodas named for pro basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

The Peanut Butter and Bacon shake is Sonic’s new creation for the summer, adding the guilty pleasure of peanut butter and bacon to the coolness of a milkshake. “Customers try it the first time out of curiosity,” says spokesman Patrick Lenow. “What we find is, they genuinely like it and try again.”

For customers looking to indulge, McDonald’s is launching its McCafe Dulce de Leche Shake, inspired by the Latin American dessert.

Arby’s debuts a Salted Caramel Shake, which vice president of brand marketing Robin Seward said “rose to the top in tests.”

Dairy Queen froze the campfire feeling with S’mores Frozen Hot Chocolate. The drink blends cocoa fudge, crushed graham crackers, DQ’s slushy Arctic Rush and vanilla soft serve.

Taco Bell Is Testing A Waffle Taco

As part of its new, low price menu, Taco Bell is testing out a new breakfast menu item called the Waffle Taco or as I like to call it, the Waco.

Currently available only at three Southern California locations, the 89-cent breakfast option features a sausage patty and scrambled eggs folded into a waffle with optional syrup…yum!

You can even chase it down with a Mountain Dew A.M.,the fast food chain’s soda and orange juice beverage.

Dependent on testing, the Waffle Taco could be rolled out nationwide. If the guys in the white lab coats at the Taco Bell secret recipe bunker are reading this, may I suggest pancake enchiladas….pancheladas?

What Is The Chipotle Quesarito?

The Quesarito is a secret, off-menu Chipotle item that combines a quesadilla with a burrito.

The gooey “hot mess” begins with a tortilla filled with melted cheese and then it’s pried open so that the customer can add meat, beans, rice, veggies, etc.

The Quesarito is so popular that it actually has Facebook fan pages and FastCompany wrote an entire article about the 1,500 calorie super burrito.
