Frozen Musical Poster By Olly Moss

It’s been almost four years since the animated film “Frozen” made it impossible to unhear  “Let It Go.” That’s music to the ears of the Disney Theatrical Group as it readies to open a new high-profile musical adaptation of the movie on Broadway next spring.

It was a tricky assignment for Andrew Flatt, Disney Theatrical’s senior vice president for  strategy, marketing and revenue. He knew the poster design couldn’t stray too far from depicting the “Frozen” — a sweetheart story of Princess Elsa and her frosty powers — that fans hold dear. He also knew he wanted a color palette that stuck with ice-cold hues of blue, white and silver.

To make sure the stage version (which begins performances in Denver this month) set itself apart from the film, Mr. Flatt said he wanted a poster to differentiate and elevate.

The final show art, from the advertising agency Serino Coyne, is an icy fantasia by Olly Moss, an artist based outside London. The poster features a giant, stylized snowflake with brushy tips that bursts across a sea of azures and indigos. Embedded in the fractal geometrics are silhouettes of a young woman reaching with a dramatically raised arm. For added wow, negative space forms two other likenesses that, as Mr. Flatt noted, people might not see right away.

A Frozen Ride Is Coming To Disney World

ANE7966464

Construction has begun at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet guests.

“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.

The theme park is extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).

Froz_1sht_SingAlong_Digital_v123 (2)

Frozen audiences are invited to join the act—literally—as more than 1000 theaters nationwide introduce an all-new sing-along version of Disney’s Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning big-screen adventure beginning Jan. 31, 2014.

“‘Frozen’ fans have embraced the film’s original songs and its soundtrack with such passion—there are countless YouTube videos from people singing songs like ‘Let It Go’—we decided to create a version that would celebrate that enthusiasm,” said Dave Hollis, executive vice president, theatrical distribution, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s a great opportunity for families to get together and have some fun with these songs.”

According to Hollis, on-screen lyrics and a magical bouncing snowflake will accompany select showings; moviegoers can check local listings for showtimes and theaters. The duration of the sing-along run will vary by theater.

Disney’s “Frozen” received two Oscar nominations, including best animated feature and best original song (“Let It Go”). Named best animated film by more than a dozen critics associations, the film won a Golden Globe for best animated feature, two Critics Choice Movie Awards, including best animated feature and best song (“Let It Go”), and a Producers Guild of America Award for outstanding animated feature.

In wide release since November 27, the film posted the No. 1 all-time Thanksgiving debut and the largest opening ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film. “Frozen,” Walt Disney Animation Studio’s 53rd feature film, has earned more than $773 million worldwide, including $337` million domestically. The film’s soundtrack was No. 1 in the Billboard top 200 for two straight weeks.

At Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre, the “Frozen” sing-along version includes on-stage appearances from the movie’s Elsa prior to each showing, plus snow flurries inside the theater. Showtimes are at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

On Digital HD and 3D February 25, 2014 and Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On-Demand March 18, 2014, the in-home version of “Frozen” promises continued family fun with a blizzard of never-before-seen bonus extras to complement the film’s gorgeous animation, memorable characters and unforgettable music.
