Scholastic today revealed the cover of a stunning new edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to be published on October 20, 2020. This innovative edition of the first book in the Harry Potter series is designed and illustrated by the award-winning design studio MinaLima, best known for establishing the visual graphic style of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

With brilliant full-color illustrations on nearly every page, this new edition also includes eight interactive special paper craft features. Readers can open the beautifully designed, elaborately folded Hogwarts letter and Diagon Alley shopping list, reveal the magical entryway to Diagon Alley, open a die-cut, fold-out Hogwarts Castle, make a sumptuous feast appear in the Great Hall, and more.

“This new edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the perfect way to start a new generation of readers on their Hogwarts journey, and at the same time is sure to be a treasured keepsake for fans to add to their collection,” said Ellie Berger, President Scholastic Trade. “The Harry Potter series continues to inspire readers of all ages with its universal themes of friendship, imagination and the triumph of good over evil.”

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was published by Scholastic in the U.S. in September 1998 with a first printing of 50,000 copies. More than 20 years later, the Harry Potter book series has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide.

“Twenty years of designing for the Wizarding World have come full circle in this extraordinary opportunity to depict Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in a whole new way. From creating Harry’s Hogwarts acceptance letter for the first film, to envisioning his world for this new illustrated edition, MinaLima’s many invitations to visualize this fantastic universe never cease to beguile. We have sought to bring together our artistry with J.K. Rowling’s singular storytelling to offer the reader a completely fresh experience of this now new classic work,” said Eduardo Lima & Miraphora Mina.

Scholastic this week released four exclusive new images from the eagerly anticipated fully illustrated edition of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Illustrated by Kate Greenaway Medal winner Jim Kay, the images show major characters from the Harry Potter books—Harry Potter, Rubeus Hagrid, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley plus Hogwarts.

Published globally on October 6, 2015, the deluxe hardcover edition will be full color throughout and will include an elegant ribbon marker and illustrated endpapers. This will be the first time that a fully illustrated Harry Potter book has been published. Many of the original Harry Potter publishers around the globe will be joining the US and the UK in bringing this illustrated edition to life and it is set to be the landmark publishing event of 2015.

“To be given the opportunity to design the characters, the clothing, the architecture and landscapes to possibly the most expansive fantasy world in children’s literature, well let’s just say I’m extremely excited about it,” said Kay. “The story is everything, and so I want to bring what I can to really show the depth of Rowling’s stories, to their best.” Over 450 million copies of the Harry Potter books have sold worldwide and the series continues to appear on bestseller lists in the U.S. Scholastic plans to publish fully illustrated editions—one per year—of each of the seven Harry Potter books.
