Watch The Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Comic-Con Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures shared a new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Comic-Con trailer at Comic-Con today.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. The film stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamandar alognside returning stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Ezra Miller. They’re joined by Claudia Kim, Zoe Kravitz, Callum Turner,  with Jude Law as Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as the titular Grindelwald.

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is being directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling, and produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. The film will debut in theaters November 16, 2018.

Harry Potter Books Unveil Seven New 20th Anniversary Covers By Brian Selznick

It was announced earlier this year that special 20th anniversary editions of J.K. Rowling’s seven books would be released, with new covers illustrated by artist Brian Selznick (The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck).

Illustrator Brian Selznick

Those new black-and-white covers were unveiled Tuesday by Scholastic. When placed side by side, the seven covers become a long mural as seen above.

The new books are part of a yearlong campaign to commemorate Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone being released in the U.S. two decades ago. The new paperback versions of the Harry Potter series will be released June 26 and will be followed by a collectible box set designed by Selznick coming in September.

“I’m a huge Harry Potter fan (a proud Hufflepuff!) and to be asked to illustrate the 20th anniversary edition covers was an absolute honor,” Selznick said in a statement. “I knew this project came with so much responsibility to the stories, as well as to the readers. I revisited the books and was especially moved by the relationships between the characters in J.K. Rowling’s magical world, so I wanted these covers to reflect that. One of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the process was drawing seven independent covers that would stand on their own, while making sure that they also lined up to create one single satisfying image. It took dozens and dozens of sketches to get it right, and I am thrilled to share my great love for the books with these new illustrations.”

Plans to mark the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter’s U.S. publication are also in place for bookstores, libraries, schools, and festivals, according to Pottermore. Additionally, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is making its Broadway bow later this month, the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibit is opening at the New-York Historical Society in October, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will open in theaters November 10.

Brian Selznick To Illustrate Seven New Covers For Scholastic To Celebrate 20 Years Since The US publication of Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone

As part of a year-long campaign to commemorate the publication of the first Harry Potter book in the US, the new paperback versions of the Harry Potter series will be released in July, to be followed by a collectible boxed set in September.

The editions will boast brand-new cover designs by Brian Selznick – the Caldecott Medal-winning artist responsible for the acclaimed book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which was so memorably turned into the Martin Scorsese movie Hugo… a film that went on to scoop up 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

‘I’m a big Harry Potter fan and it is an incredible honor to illustrate J.K. Rowling’s iconic series,’ says Brian. ‘I am thrilled to play a part in this exciting 20th anniversary celebration and look forward to meeting Harry Potter fans and readers across the country.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret isn’t the only work of Brian’s that’s been turned into a movie: his book Wonderstruck was adapted last year, with him also penning the screenplay. Before becoming a children’s book illustrator he worked as a puppeteer and set designer, which seems an appropriate background for someone later asked to bring the wizarding world to life.

These new editions aren’t the only treat for Stateside fans this year. The 20th anniversary of the US publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be marked with celebrations at bookstores, libraries, schools and festivals, as well as the arrival on American shores of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway in April, and the British Library exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic at the New-York Historical Society in October. And Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will open in cinemas in November, too.

Harry Potter Prints By Olly Moss

a

Olly Moss brings iconic design, vibrant color and classic imagery for these latest Harry Potter cover designs, commissioned by Pottermore and exclusive to the German audio books. The covers are a series of reimagined holiday posters from the golden age of British railways with Hogwarts at center stage.

Each poster is brilliantly complex. A simple design hides layers of detail that offer more than first meets the eye. “I tried to fill them with as many little details as I could within the constraints of keeping the composition and the viewpoint the same every time,” says Moss.

He points out the Dark Mark that hovers in the clouds above Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. “I sent it in and the feedback was, “Do you think we could see a Dark Mark on that poster?” and I said, “Look, it’s already there!”’

You can buy prints of Olly Moss’s original designs from his website, for one week only. Each print will cost $50 or the set of 6 posters for $275. The prints measure 16×24″ and are hand-numbered officially-licensed Harry Potter giclees. art print. In collaboration with Pottermore.

This is a timed edition. It will be on sale until 3pm BST Monday October 25th. Moss will print enough posters to meet all orders.

Because this is a timed edition and production is based on the volume of orders, The posters will ship in about 2-3 months. Earlier orders will begin shipping first. You can order the prints HERE.

Harry Potter E-Book Covers By Olly Moss

1

Designer Olly Moss, well known for his striking movie posters has created new covers for the worldwide digital release of the Harry Potter books, and they’re amazing.

“I really pitched my heart out,” Moss, a longtime fan of J.K. Rowling’s novels, tells Pottermore. “I came up with four or five different approaches and sketched most of the books for each. The next day I got on a plane to Comic-Con, crashed on a friend’s hotel room floor and figured I’d forget about it. Two days later I woke up really hungover – so, so hungover because we’d been in the hotel bar until four in the morning. I got that call that said I got the job and I lost my mind.”

While Moss says he tried to avoid spoilers on the covers, he wanted to make sure each illustration revealed multiple layers to the story.

“This is a world where things often seem quite mundane on the surface and then have a secondary reveal,” he says. “I love coming up with those images because it makes me feel that no one’s done this before – no one’s seen something in this specific way.”

The new covers are available now on Harry Potter e-books.

Harry Potter Returns In New Short Story By J.K. Rowling

p.txt

J.K. Rowling has given fans a glimpse of the grown-up boy wizard in a new story posted Tuesday on her Pottermore website.

It’s the first update since ‘‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’’ was published in 2007, but Rowling spokesman Mark Hutchinson said there are ‘‘no plans’’ for a new Potter novel.

The 1,500-word story describes Harry, about to turn 34, attending the final of the Quidditch World Cup with his family and old friends Ron and Hermione.

Harry now has ‘‘threads of silver’’ in his hair and a mysterious cut on his cheekbone, related to his ‘‘top secret’’ work as an evil-battling Auror.

The story is written in the style of a gossip column for the Daily Prophet by reporter Rita Skeeter, a minor character in the novels.

The style allows Rowling to poke fun at the tabloid press, a real-life bugbear that she has accused of invading her privacy and that of her family.

Skeeter observes that Harry and friends are ‘‘no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were in their heyday’’ and speculates about the state of Harry’s marriage to Ginny Weasley.

She says Ron Weasley’s red hair ‘‘appears to be thinning slightly,’’ and notes witheringly that Harry still wears ‘‘the distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient 12-year-old.’’

The story discloses that Ron now runs the family joke shop, while Hermione is a — literally — high-flying civil servant, Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

There are also updates on other characters, including Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood, as well as glimpses of a new generation of teenage wizards.

Rowling has long said that ‘‘Deathly Hallows,’’ would be the last Potter novel, but has produced other Potter-related material, including spin-off story collection, ‘‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard.’’

You can read the story HERE.
