Gotham PD Series Set In ‘The Batman’ World Ordered At HBO Max

Gotham City is coming to HBO Max. The streaming service has set a series commitment for a spinoff of Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman” that will be set inside the Gotham City Police Department.

“Boardwalk Empire” creator Terrance Winter will write the project, with Reeves and his 6th and Idaho production company producing with Warner Bros. TV. Reeves and Winter will executive produce alongside “The Batman” producer Dylan Clark.

Reeves is helming Warner Bros.’ newest take on the Caped Crusader, which will see Robert Pattinson take over the role. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2021, and also stars Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, John Turturro, Jeffrey Wright, Peter Sarsgard and Andy Serkis.

It is not clear yet if any of the film’s cast will appear in this new series, though Wright is portraying Police Commissioner Jim Gordon.

“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream,” said Reeves.

Zack Snyder Releases First Preview of Justice League Director’s Cut

Zack Snyder has revealed the first footage from his eagerly anticipated director’s cut of Justice League.

The footage shows Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) looking at an artifact by torchlight while Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) forebodingly narrates and then cuts to footage of the supervillain Darkseid — a character played by Ray Porter (Argo) who was cut from the film’s original theatrical release.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures announced recently that they will exclusively premiere Snyder’s cut of the DC film on the streaming service in 2021. Fans have been rallying to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut since the theatrical version was released in 2017.

Snyder helmed 2013’s Man of Steel and 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before setting his sights on the climactic Justice League, an ambitious title bringing together six DC heroes and potentially launching a new string of films à la Marvel’s The Avengers.

Six months before the film’s release, Snyder stepped down from the film after suffering a personal family tragedy. Warner Bros. hired Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for extensive rewriting and reshoots that significantly altered the film, along with swapping Junkie XL’s soundtrack for a new one by Danny Elfman.

When Justice League was released, critics were scathing (a 40 percent on Rotten Tomatoes). The box office was disappointing given the genre’s high standards ($657 million). And Warner Bros. dramatically shifted its future plans (Ben Affleck was replaced as Batman by Robert Pattinson; a Flash movie announced for 2018 was delayed; a Cyborg movie scheduled for 2020 and then shelved).

Soon began a drumbeat of fans online wanting to see the “Snyder Cut.” Snyder himself released images from deleted scenes that have added fuel to the movement, as did conflicting yet supportive comments made by cast and crew about the cut’s existence. Affleck, Gadot, Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) have all urged releasing the cut on social media.

Watch The Doom Patrol Season 2 Trailer

HBO Max has debuted the first trailer for the highly-anticipated second season of the previously DC Universe exclusive series Doom Patrol teasing the return of the titular team as they try to go from being a group of zeroes to heroes.

DC’s strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Part support group, part superhero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

HBO Max will premiere three episodes on June 25th; following that, new episodes will pop up weekly for the remainder of Season 2. All 15 episodes of season one are already available for streaming on HBO Max.

“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality,” said Snyder.

“Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

The film’s producers are Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, with executive producers Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Jim Rowe, Ben Affleck, Wesley Coller, Curtis Kanemoto, and Chris Terrio.

HBO Max To Adapt Stephen King & Joe Hill’s ‘Throttle’ Into A Feature Film

WarnerMedia has enjoyed large success adapting the extensive literary library of Stephen King and now its upcoming streaming service HBO Max has acquired the rights to King and son Joe Hill’s novella Throttle for a feature adaptation.

Originally published in 2009, the story centers on a father and son who lead a biker gang that are terrorized by a big rig truck driver on an isolated stretch of the American desert. The novella was published in a limited edition anthology He Is Legend honoring Richard Matheson, whose short story “Duel” served as inspiration for Throttle, with a comic book adaptation from IDW Publishing debuting i 2012.

The adaptation is set to be penned by Leigh Dana Jackson, a writer and executive producer on Netflix’s Raising Dion, with David S. Goyer (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Terminator: Dark Fate) set to produce alongside Keith Levine through their Phantom Four banner.

WarnerMedia and their various distribution labels have been one of the primary sources for King adaptations for the past 40 years, going all the way back to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and immediately following it with Creepshow and Carrie and bringing to life everything from The Green Mile and It to The Mangler and Dreamcatcher, with the most recent coming in the form of last year’s well-received Doctor Sleep from Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House).

Hill has seen a number of his own projects find their way to the TV and feature-length worlds, including AMC’s hit vampire psychological thriller NOS4A2, which is set to premiere its second season on June 21, and Netflix’s Locke & Key and In The Tall Grass, which he co-wrote with King.
