IKEA & LEGO Introduce BYGGLEK – A Creative Solution That Intertwines Play And Storage

IKEA of Sweden AB and the LEGO Group revealed the long-awaited outcome of their collaboration. The two brands joined forces to create BYGGLEK – a playful storage solution. Consisting of a series of storage boxes with LEGO studs and a special LEGO brick set, the new BYGGLEK collection aims to encourage play and infuse more fun into storage around the home. The BYGGLEK collection will available in existing IKEA retail channels throughout Europe and North America beginning October 1, 2020.

With a strong belief that play makes both the home and the world a better place, IKEA of Sweden AB and the LEGO Group set out to remove barriers to play in daily life, while creating a practical yet playful experience that children and adults could enjoy together.

Play is an important and powerful way for children to learn and grow. However, children and adults sometimes have different views about play and creativity at home. Where adults often need to create structure and organize, children see a stimulating and creative environment in which they naturally want to play, pause and then replay.

Reorganizing children’s creative space during playtime not only disrupts their play but also their creative expression and growth. Therefore, the IKEA and LEGO brands wanted to create a storage solution that itself offers a fun and playful experience. The BYGGLEK boxes are equipped with LEGO studs on the top and the front that allow children to integrate the storage boxes as part of their LEGO builds. They can store their projects inside, and proudly display their creations on top.

The BYGGLEK collection consists of four different products: one set of three small boxes, two larger boxes, and one set of LEGO bricks to kick-start the playful experience. BYGGLEK can be used with any existing and future LEGO elements, as the studs used on the lid and front are part of the LEGO System in Play.

BYGGLEK will be available at IKEA U.S. stores and online at IKEA-USA.com beginning October 1, 2020.

IKEA & Ori Team Up To Develop ROGNAN Robotic Furniture For Small Living Spaces

Cities are booming and at the same time living spaces are shrinking. That’s why IKEA is exploring flexible and innovative solutions that empower people to have big dreams for small homes – introducing ROGNAN robotic furniture developed in collaboration with Ori.

To meet this need, IKEA is collaborating with Ori, an American startup that has developed robotic furniture for modern living and has been challenging the limitations of space in living spaces – now introducing ROGNAN. With ROGNAN as a robotic furniture solution for small space living, people will be able to turn small spaces into smart spaces that have all the comfort and convenience of a home. ROGNAN is a bed, closet, sofa, and desk all in one!

ROGNAN is built on Ori’s robotic platform with system thinking in mind, working with the IKEA storage solution PLATSA as a standard geometry. This means that people can easily change the function and look of ROGNAN, or move PLATSA to another place if that’s needed, being more conscious and less wasteful of what you buy by prolonging the life of the product and letting the product adapt to your life changes. ROGNAN also works with TRÅDFRI cabinet and wardrobe smart lighting.

The form, function and price of ROGNAN is based on the needs of an urban, extreme small-space living consumer; determined through home visits, data and expertise in the IKEA retail markets of Hong Kong and Japan.

The first launch of ROGNAN will be in Hong Kong and Japan during 2020.

IKEA Recreates The Living Rooms From The Simpsons, Stranger Things & Friends

You definitely know the rooms, but how well do you know the furnishings?

A new ad campaign from IKEA in the United Arab Emirates has some fun with three of television’s most iconic living rooms by recreating each one solely with IKEA furniture and decorations—plus some help from 3-D design software.

Created by Publicis Spain, the “IKEA Real Life” campaign took two months to track down all the right pieces that are currently on sale from Ikea. They were then compiled and designed via 3-D software to look as close as possible to the memorable living rooms from The Simpsons, Friends and Stranger Things.

On a microsite for the campaign, you can see each room and learn more about the furnishings featured in the ads.
