Super Clever Optical Illusion Video Featuring Ray-Ban Sunglasses

This clever video features anamorphic illusions in which apparently 3D objects turn out to be 2D anamorphic projections. As the video progresses, the illusions escalate in complexity—the last illusion, involving a pair of sunglasses, is very clever indeed. The video was produced by Ray-Ban.

Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries & Mentors of Ricky Jay is a documentary about Ricky Jay, the renowned magician, actor, and writer. The film follows Jay’s life from his childhood as the son of an amateur magician, to his successful one-man shows and his film and television appearances. The film also spotlights Ricky Jay’s two most important mentors, magicians Dai Vernon and Charlie Miller.

The documentary was directed by Molly Bernstein and Alan Edelstein. It opens at the Film Forum in New York City on April 17, 2013.

Crouching Tiger & Turtle – The Roller Coaster Walkway

From a distance this steel structure resembles a roller coaster but it’s actually a public art sculpture called Crouching Tiger & Turtle. Designed by sculptors Ulrich Genth and Heike Mutter, the interactive landscape piece is located in Duisberg, Germany. Visitors are encouraged to follow the twists and turns of the winding walkway and enjoy the surrounding Ruhr landscape from a different perspective. Although from a distance it looks as if the entire sculpture is accessible to pedestrians the loops are decorative and cannot be walked upon.

The type appears to be facing two different directions simultaneously.

Elevator Illusion Shocks Unsuspecting London Shoppers

Unsuspecting customers at Southside Shopping Centre in Wandsworth, London were fooled by the 3D illusion on the floor of the elevator created by artist Andrew Walker.

The stunt, which genuinely alarmed shoppers, was a promotion for a new ride, Nemesis Sub-Terra at the British amusement park Alton Towers.

Wooden balls roll up the slopes as if they are magnetic, but really they are rolling down, due to oppositely perceived orientations.
