Netflix Is A Joke Fest Coming To Los Angeles April 27 -May 3

Netflix Is A Joke, Netflix’s comedy brand, is throwing a week-long comedy festival, Netflix Is A Joke Fest. Produced by Netflix in association with Live Nation, the star-studded celebration of comedy will take over Los Angeles April 27th – May 3rd and feature live stand-up shows, special events and activations with Netflix comedians and artists from around the world. 

Featured Netflix talent include Ali Wong, Amy Schumer, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, David Letterman, Jamie Foxx, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, Sebastian Maniscalco, the cast of Schitt’s Creek and more. The fest will also include Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration  with headliners Alan Carr, Hannah Gadsby, Margaret Cho, Rosie O’Donnell, Sandra Bernhard, Wanda Sykes and more.

Anchoring the Netflix is a Joke Fest is the May 3rd closing night inaugural edition of The Hall, a first-of-its-kind hall of fame honoring the greats of stand-up comedy.  Today’s biggest names in comedy including Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes and more will pay homage to and induct comedy legends George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers and Robin Williams. The Hall and induction ceremony special were created by award-winning director/producer Marty Callner and producer Randall Gladstein.  Callner will direct and executive produce through his Funny Business, Inc. shingle.  Gladstein and award winning producer/manager, David Steinberg will also executive produce.The Hall, which will have a physical home in a newly designed wing of the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, will be taped at The Ace Theater in Downtown LA for streaming on Netflix later in May.    

Tickets for all events across the festival will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, March 6th at 10am PT at www.NetflixIsAJokeFest.com. Select pre-sales will be available beginning Tuesday, March 3. Eleven shows will be recorded and available in their entirety at a later date on Netflix. Highlights will also be available on Netflix Is A Joke’s SiriusXM channel and on Netflix Is A Joke social platforms.

Netflix is also proud to partner with Comedy Gives Back, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a safety net for comedians in need with mental health, medical and financial crisis support. During the Festival, Comedy Gives Back will provide onsite services and information for all interested Festival goers, free of charge. Comedy Gives Back is a 501(c)3 fiscally sponsored project through Road to Artdom Foundation, Inc.

The festival will take place across over 20 venues in Los Angeles, including the Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre, Hollywood Palladium, The Largo and more, with much of the festival primarily centered in Hollywood.

The Scenario Studio Los Angeles Pop-Up

For the past 12 years, Scenario has been hired by celebrities and Fortune-500 companies to produce elaborate private photo shoots at their parties and events. The only guests who were able to enjoy a Scenario photo shoot had to be connected to a celebrity or large company, but now, for the first time ever, the public is invited to join the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Kanye West, the Kardashians, and over 100 other celebrities who have experienced Scenario on set.

The Scenario Studio in Los Angeles is a preview pop-up event lasting only for 2 months, featuring an inaugural collection of full-scale, interactive photography sets designed by world famous photographer and set designer, John Ganun.

Each photo set uses cutting edge LED lighting equipment and techniques to allow guests to use their very own smart phone cameras to take pictures that look as good as the photos the Scenario team would normally take of celebrities using professional cameras and strobe lighting.

Obvious Plant’s Museum of Toys Pop-Up Exhibit 

Obvious Plant’s Museum of Toys is a pop-up exhibit that walks visitors through an alternate history of toys. In this alternate reality, real toys are recontextualized and placed alongside Obvious Plant’s original toys to create a darker, more bizarre version of the past.

The museum consists of 100+ toys and games, each one unique and altered in a humorous way. Multiple photo opportunities are available. Guests can step inside a life-size action figure box to become a toy themselves! Multiple special guests and interactive toys will also be available.

The popup exhibit in Los Angeles runs from March 1st to 17th.

The Sparrow Mart, A Los Angeles Pop Up Shop Filled With Felt Versions of 31,000 Supermarket Items

Introducing Sparrow Mart, Lucy Sparrow’s felt reimagining of the LA supermarket, open August 1-31st at The Standard, Downtown LA. It’s her largest exhibition to date, with over 31,000 hand-painted and sewn versions of every grocery item imaginable, all available for purchase (some even as low as $5!). 

Think fruit, vegetables, sushi, fish, meat, frozen food, candy, liquor, and a health and beauty department. Sparrow Mart even has a VHS section, featuring ’80s classics like ‘Footloose’, ‘Dirty Dancing’, and ‘Short Circuit’.

Apple Plans A Store & Event Space Unlike Any Other At The Historic Downtown Los Angeles Tower Theatre

Apple has long been rumored to be working on plans for an Apple Store at the iconic Tower Theatre in Los Angeles, and today, Apple shared details on the upcoming location with the Los Angeles Times. 

According to Apple, the Tower Theatre store will be one of the world’s most prominent Apple retail locations when it is completed, with the company planning to entirely overhaul the interior of the building to turn it into retail space and an interactive community area. 

In a rendering shared by Apple, the Tower Theatre store preserves the ornate Renaissance Revival style of the interior of the theatre for an Apple Store that will indeed be one of the most unique. The building, which features French, Spanish, Moorish, and Italian elements, was built to mimic the Paris Opera House. 

Apple is aiming to file plans with the city this week to gain approval for its planned renovation of the location.

The Good Citizens of Los Angeles To Pay Tribute To Adam West On June 15, 2017

Holy Bat-signal, Batman! In a fitting tribute to pop culture icon Adam West, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Department Chief Charlie Beck will join surprise Bat-guests for a ceremonial lighting of the Bat-signal at City Hall this Thursday evening, June 15.

The legendary star of the classic Batman TV series, which aired from 1966-68, passed away on Friday, June 9 at the age of 88. In rememberance of West’s unforgettable portrayal of the celebrated “Bright Knight,” Mayor Garcetti and Chief Beck will light the iconic Bat-signal, which will be projected onto the tower of Los Angeles City Hall at Spring Street. Attending Bat-fans are invited to don their Bat-suits and trusty utility belts in honor of West’s signature role as the true crimefighter.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Slated To Open In Los Angeles In 2018 

The Ratkovich Company, in partnership with National Real Estate Advisors, Blue Vista Capital Management, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema today announced the Austin-based theater chain will open its first Los Angeles theater at The Bloc, a 1.8 million square foot mixed-use destination at the hub of the city’s retail, entertainment, financial, and sports center. Alamo Drafthouse Downtown is slated to open in 2018 as The Bloc completes its $180 million renovations bringing a vibrant, open-air, pedestrian-friendly, urban destination to Downtown Los Angeles.

“When we announced seven years ago that we would be embarking upon a plan of nationwide expansion, my primary goal was to open a theater in Los Angeles,” says Alamo Drafthouse Cinema founder and CEO Tim League.  “After many years of exhaustive searching and planning, we feel we have found the perfect home at The Bloc. Building a new audience for foreign language films, documentaries and independent movies is core to the Alamo brand, and this flagship theater will be ground zero for that effort.”

Alamo Drafthouse provides a unique cinematic experience with in-theater dining underpinning a heavily curated program of hand-picked blockbusters, highest-quality independent, foreign and documentary features and special event programming. It’s food and beverage offering is equally deliberate with a full menu offering food made from scratch and a heavy dose of the best local craft beers and cocktails. Alamo Drafthouse Downtown will be located on the second and third floors of the southwest corner of The Bloc, accessible from the Flower Street mid-block crossing and the fourth floor of the parking structure.

Scum & Villainy Cantina Celebrates May The Fourth By Extending Thru June

The Scum & Villainy Cantina, the popular pop-up intergalactic experience that has been virtually sold out for its initial two-month run, is extending its inaugural activation through June 2017, proprietor J.C. Reifenberg announced Monday night at the Hollywood establishment.

Starting on the beloved celebratory date of May the Fourth, fans can purchase tickets and reservations for the entire month of June. In addition, Reifenberg announced that all ticket purchases/reservations made on May 4, 2017 would be at the discounted rate of $40 (a $10 savings).

For the price of admission, guests receive two drinks of their choice from the Cantina’s specialty menu, a souvenir pint glass, an exclusive Scum & Villainy challenge coin, and nightly surprises around each corner. Themed food items are also available for purchase.

New ticket reservations are limited, and admissions will be handled out on a first come, first served basis. The “June Scum Pass” also includes four souvenir glasses, but sales will be limited to a total of 40 for June.
