Mondo x Acme Archives Present: SWxMM, A Mike Mitchell Star Wars Gallery Show

Mondo Gallery is thrilled to announce its first show of 2017, “Mondo x Acme Archives Present: SWxMM,” featuring celebrated artist Mike Mitchell’s brand new character portraits of some of the most beloved heroes and villains in the Star Wars universe. Rebel scum, scruffy nerf herders, Sith Lords, golden rods, laser brains, and more will be on display with Mitchell’s dignified and iconic portrait treatment. In addition to new prints, all of Mitchell’s previously released Star Wars character portraits will be on display with a very limited number of each available for purchase, including the very first portrait released in the series with Acme Archives, “Red 5.”  The show will kick off with an opening reception, open to the public, on Friday, March 10 from 7pm to 10pm and will run during regular hours until Monday, March 13. Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe Street in Austin, TX.

After first partnering with Acme Archives in 2016 to debut Star Wars character portraits, from the classic Luke Skywalker in X-Wing flight gear to new heroic favorites like The Force Awakens’ Rey, Mondo and Acme Archives are excited to once again invite fans to journey to a galaxy far, far away.

“I have a particular and unyielding love for the designs in Star Wars, and I’m so stoked that I got to spend a year picking out my favorite characters and bringing them to life in my own way,” said Mike Mitchell.

“Over the past year, Mike’s Star Wars art print series has become something really special. As with all of Mike’s work, the pieces are even more powerful when shown together. We are excited to show the entire collection in one space, plus a handful of new surprises. If you’re a fan of the Star Wars universe, you don’t want to miss this one,” said Mondo Co-Founder/Creative Director Mitch Putnam.

To coincide with their first gallery event of the year, the full Mondo team will participate in its very first Reddit AMA on Tuesday, March 7 to discuss the show, additional plans for 2017, and well… anything! Follow Mondo’s social media channels for more details on timing.

MONDO Partners With Acme Archives To Release Time Limited Mike Mitchell Star Wars Themed “Red Five” Print On March 17, 2016

Mondo has announced that it is teaming up with ACME Archives to create a new series of posters based on both the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises. The partnership is kicking off with the first new poster, a profile of Luke Skywalker from artist Mike Mitchell, titled simply “Red Five.” It goes on sale tomorrow, March 17th, at 1PM ET / 10AM PT, and rather than Mondo’s usual immediate sell out within seconds, this one will be available for a full 72 hours.

Mondo also announced they will produce Indiana Jones posters. Mondo has never secured the license for Raiders of the Lost Ark and its sequels until partnering with ACME. The collaboration will also allow Mondo to create posters for several other properties that ACME Archives has the fine art licenses for, including The X-Files and projects from Dreamworks Animation.

You can purchase the Red Five print HERE for $55.

Mondo To Release The Dark Knight Prints By Laurent Durieux & Mike Mitchell On January 7, 2015

Tomorrow Mondo will release a couple of new posters celebrating one of the greatest superhero films of our time: Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

First up is a pair of posters from Laurent Durieux with Batman standing tall amidst the chaos and mayhem that’s been brought to Gotham City by The Joker. Originally, this poster was set to be released at a screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse last September, but was unfortunately unable to happen in time.

Here’s what Laurent had to say about the artwork:

“It’s been too long since I’ve come up with a new print for Mondo and this one has been finished and ready for many months. I have been both very anxious and excited about the day when it would eventually be revealed. The Dark Knight is such a great film, and most certainly is my favorite of Nolan’s trilogy. I hope I did it justice. A lot of TLC went into it in the hope I would. Thank you Mondo for this great opportunity!”

Please follow MONDO on Twitter for the on sale announcement. These posters will be available online at a random time on Thursday, January 7, 2015.

MONDO Announces Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Lil Mikey Figure Available For Pre-Order

MONDO has annnounced their first toy release, Lil Mikey, available for pre-order today! Lil MIkey will retail for $105, which includes free worldwide shipping.

Lil Mikey is a 9″ vinyl figure based on the Michaelangelo TMNT illustration by Mike Mitchell from his Just Like Us series. Here’s what Mike Mitchell had to say about the project:

“If I had $5 when I was a kid, it was going to be spent on a ninja turtle figure. So much of my childhood was defined by TMNT, I watched every episode, I had the toys, the shirts, the games, the comics. I wish I could say “Lil Mikey” was a dream come true, but I never could have fathomed this happening. When I was in art school in Chicago, I dropped into Rotofugi, an awesome gallery/designer toy shop that I frequently rode by and not five minutes into it, I was hooked on designer toys. I hardly had any money in those days, but I loved stopping by when I could as the toys were very inspiring to me. I’ve wanted to make a toy ever since, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one to start with.

It’s not super easy to get a toy made, it requires capital and various experienced parties. But this has been an extremely rewarding experience, thanks to Dan Willett at Unboxed and Justin Ishmael, who has sort of been my partner in crime during this. We’re both huge toy dudes, and have enjoyed the process of seeing this come together through various people around the world. I can’t wait for the finished product. I don’t have any of my own work hanging up in my house, but this will 100% be occupying a shelf.”

After working with Dan Willett and Brock Otterbacher over the past year to make the Lil MIkey figure a reality, MONDO is proud to present this beautiful crafted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figure!
