Cemetery Dance Publications Announces Sleeping Beauties (Special Edition) By Stephen King & Owen King

Cemetery Dance Publications is very pleased to announce their Deluxe Special Limited Edition of Stephen King and Owen King’s collaborative novel, Sleeping Beauties.

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, the authors tell the highest of high-stakes stories: what might happen if women disappeared from the world of men? In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place… The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

The exclusive Cemetery Dance Special Limited Edition will be published in three states, all of them printed in two colors and bound in fine materials, and there will be no second printings.

The manuscript for this epic novel was more than 800 pages, so this will be one of the largest books CD has ever published. This will be a HUGE book in more ways than one considering it is also the first novel ever co-written by Stephen King and Owen King! We recommend you do not wait to place your order because we suspect most of the copies will be reserved in record time.

Read An Excerpt From Sleeping Beauties By Stephen King & Owen King

Stephen King didn’t look too far to find his co-author for the forthcoming novel, Sleeping Beauties: The horror master wrote it with his son, Owen King.

The book, set in a small Appalachian town in the near future, centers on an intriguing phenomenon happening to women when they sleep. According to the official summary, as they slumber, women “become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep, they go to another place.” And the men, left behind, become “increasingly primal.” But when one woman, Evie, appears to be unaffected by this sleep-cocoon, it remains to be seen whether she’s an evil being, a medical anomaly, or perhaps something else entirely.

Coming To Bookstores On September 15, 2015 – A Graphic Novel ‘Intro To Alien Invasion” By Owen King And Mark Jude Poirer, Illustrated By Nancy Ahn

91RzWwwWj5L

Scribner is pleased to announce the publication, on September 15, 2015 of its first graphic novel, Intro To Alien Invasion, born out of a fantastic collaboration between two exceptional literary novelists and an imaginative illustrator. The gifted Owen King makes up one half of the storytelling team; The New York Times Book Review called his debut novel Double Feature “epic, ambitious…[King] has a captivating energy, a precision, and a fondness for people that are rare.” Writing with King is New York Times Notable novelist and screenwriter Mark Jude Poirier, whose work includes the films Smart People and Hateship Loveship, adapted from an Alice Munro story. Young, extremely talented illustrator Nancy Ahn brings a unique and knowing aesthetic to this ambitious work.

Intro To Alien Invasion stars Stacey, a brilliant, but socially marginalized student at Fenton College, a liberal arts school nestled in the hills of Vermont. Even her few friends find her relationship with Professor Evans, the highly eccentric astrobiology instructor, strange, and they’re skeptical of his theories about alien species. But, when an enormous hurricane strands the students on campus, Professor Evans’s theories prove to be correct: an alien invasion suddenly hits the college, leaving Stacey as the student most capable of taking down the infestation that threatens to wipe out the entire Fenton College population.

Intro To Alien Invasion humorously captures the contradictions of the typical liberal arts college, and its sharp depictions of various college cliques, from the “Trustafarians” to “the Young Republicans,” will leave readers in stitches. Intro To Alien Invasion also manages to reveal the dark side of college life—from mean students ignorant of their deep privilege to egotistical frat boys to uppity professors and uncaring administrators. Through inventive, witty illustrations and dynamic storytelling techniques, King, Poirier, and Ahn create an ingenious graphic novel bursting with wit, heart and pop culture references, and filtered through the point-of-view of a contemporary, compelling heroine.

Stephen King & Son Owen King On Fiction And Family

Q-Owen-Jian-Stephen

Stephen King — the one-man fear factory responsible for terrifying tomes like Carrie, Salem’s Lot and The Shining — is also dear old dad in a family of scribes. He and his youngest son, Owen King, may be bound by blood, but in many ways they inhabit very different kingdoms.

The older King is the highly-decorated, prolific master of modern horror. His latest book, Doctor Sleep, builds a story he unleashed upon the world in 1977, The Shining.

That same year, the younger King was born. He’s since grown up to become his father’s fresh-eyed editor, and is just beginning his own career with his humorous book Double Feature. And unlike his older brother, who writes under the pen name Joe Hill, Owen has decided to wear his famous name. But heavy is the head that wears the crown.

“I could write something about coal miners in West Virginia and people would be like, ‘Is your father the mine?'” joked Owen.

Jian Ghomeshi from CBC Radio chats with the Kings about their individual projects, their father-son relationship, and the thin line between horror and humor.

“Owen is also writing horror. It’s just got this big smile on its face,” said Stephen.

Gauntlet Press To Publish Signed Limited Edition of Owen King’s Novel, Double Feature – Joe Hill To Provide Tip-sheet Artwork For Lettered Edition

Double Feature Cover

Gauntlet Press has announced that they will publish a signed limited edition of the acclaimed first novel of Owen King: Double Feature.

Here is a synopsis of the book:

“Sam Dolan is a young man coming to terms with his life in the process and aftermath of making his first film. He has a difficult relationship with his father, B-movie actor Booth Dolan—a boisterous, opinionated, lying lothario whose screen legacy falls somewhere between cult hero and pathetic. Allie, Sam’s dearly departed mother, was a woman whose only fault, in Sam’s eyes, was her eternal affection for his father. Also included in the cast of indelible characters: a precocious, frequently violent half-sister; a conspiracy-theorist second wife; an Internet-famous roommate; a contractor who can’t stop expanding his house; a happy-go-lucky college girlfriend and her husband, a retired Yankees catcher; the morose producer of a true-crime show; and a slouching indie-film legend. Not to mention a tragic sex monster.

Unraveling the tumultuous, decades-spanning story of the Dolan family’s friends, lovers, and adversaries, Double Feature is about letting go of everything—regret, resentment, dignity, moving pictures, the dead—and taking it again from the top. Against the backdrop of indie filmmaking, college campus life, contemporary Brooklyn, and upstate New York, Owen King’s epic debut novel combines propulsive storytelling with mordant wit and brims with a deep understanding of the trials of ambition and art, of relationships and life, and of our attempts to survive it all.”

Owen will provide the bonus material for both the signed numbered and lettered editions (with some material appearing only in the lettered edition).

His brother Joe Hill will be doing the artwork for the tip-sheet for the book and will be signing only the 52-copy lettered edition.

The publisher will decide if they can also offer the image as a print for those purchasing the lettered edition. We will keep you informed on the progress of the book and let you know when you can place orders.
