Recreate The Magic of Classic Instant Photography With The Polaroid Snap Instant Digital Camera

PolaroidSnap_01

Polaroid announced the introduction of the Polaroid Snap instant digital camera, the newest addition to the brand’s expanding instant digital camera line. The Polaroid Snap delivers the instant simplicity and spontaneity that is synonymous with the brand, with a pocket-sized form factor and affordable price point. In addition to its compact footprint and classic Polaroid instant camera experience, the Polaroid Snap combines digital imaging with the Zero Ink Printing technology platform to enable users to easily print and share physical photos at the push of a button, while saving their image for easy uploading to a computer and any social media platform.

Simple, Instantly Striking Design

The Polaroid Snap camera’s minimalist design features an updated look that incorporates design elements of legacy Polaroid instant cameras, such as the iconic Polaroid Color Spectrum. This is thanks to the efforts and insights of the renowned design firm Ammunition, the studio that was also behind the Polaroid Zip instant photoprinter and Polaroid Cube and Polaroid Cube+ lifestyle action cameras. With the Polaroid Snap, Ammunition created a sense of continuity between classic Polaroid cameras and current Polaroid products such as the Polaroid Zip and Polaroid Cube. Led by industrial designer Robert Brunner, Ammunition is the design studio behind award-winning consumer products for brands including Adobe, Beats by Dre, Square, Lyft, Obi Worldphone and Williams-Sonoma.

Unique Features Allow Consumer to Share the Fun

The Polaroid Snap is a 10MP digital instant camera with an integrated printer using ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology, enabling users to instantly print full color, 2×3” prints automatically when an image is captured. Thanks to its quick print abilities, consumers can shoot new images even while the Polaroid Snap is printing. Additionally, the camera features a Micro SD card slot that holds up to 32GB to save and easily transfer and upload images to a computer, cloud service or social media platform. With a clean and minimalist design, the Polaroid Snap offers a truly unique feature set including different capture modes—color, black and white and vintage Polaroid photo inspired. The camera also features a photo booth mode, which takes six quick pictures in ten seconds, and the option of printing with or without the Polaroid Classic Border Logo format. These features enable users to easily add their own enhancements to the print before they even take their photo. Users can also take the perfect instant selfie thanks to the camera’s self-timer feature.

ZINK Zero Ink Printing

The Polaroid Snap instant digital camera uses the revolutionary ink-free Zero Ink Printing technology developed by ZINK. The key to the ink-free system is the patented ZINK Paper, an advanced composite material embedded with cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals and with a protective polymer overcoat.  Before printing, the dye crystals are colorless making ZINK Paper look like regular white photo paper. The ZINK-enabled Printer uses heat to activate and colorize these crystals. The result is full-color, high quality, long-lasting and smudge-proof images without ink cartridges, ribbons or toner.

The 2X3 inch photo prints in just under a minute so consumers can instantly share the photo with their friends and family. Additionally, because ZINK Paper is adhesive backed the photo can be used as a sticker as well.

The camera will be available in black, white, red and blue in Q4 2015 for $99.

Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People By Matt Hoyle

9780733630705

This star-studded tribute to the kings and queens of comedy draws together such legendary names as Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, and many more.

Granted extraordinary access, photographer Matt Hoyle has captured his subjects in portraits that are works of art in themselves—by turns zany and deadpan, laugh-out-loud and contemplative. Accompanying them are first-person reflections from each of the comedians on life and laughter that always cut straight to the heart of comedy: it’s funny because it’s true.

Page after sidesplitting page in Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People ($40) offers prose as engaging as each portrait is memorable. Here, in one handsome package, is the gift of laughter itself.

The 200 page book published by Chronicle Books will be released on October 15, 2013.

Finding Vivian Maier Trailer

Vivian Maier was a mystery even to those who knew her. A secretive nanny in the wealthy suburbs of Chicago, she died in 2009 and would have been forgotten.

But John Maloof, an amateur historian, uncovered thousands of negatives at a storage locker auction and changed history. Now, Vivian Maier is hailed as one of the greatest 20th Century photographers along with Diane Arbus Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Weegee.

And that is just where the story begins. Finding Vivian Maier follows the filmmakers as they unearth Vivian’s story, combing through thousands of negatives and a mountain of other material (including hundreds of hours of Super 8 film footage and audio recordings) left behind in Maier’s storage lockers. As the filmmakers track down an odd collection of parents who hired her, children she cared for, store owners, movie theater operators and curious neighbors who remember her, the story that emerges goes beyond cliches of the undiscovered artist and offers a portrait that is at times bewildering and troubling. Maier’s story pushes us to ask as many questions about ourselves as it does about her.

Finding Vivian Maier was Directed & Produced by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel (Bowling for Columbine, Religulous) who are Chicago natives. John once worked the swap meets and storage lockers that led to the discovery of Vivian’s photographs and Charlie grew up in the North Shore neighborhoods where Vivian was a nanny.

Since the discovery of Vivian’s work, Maloof is now the chief curator of her photographs. In 2008 he established the Maloof Collection with the purpose of preserving and making publicly available the work of Vivian Maier. Jeff Garlin, an Executive Producer on the film, is a producer, writer, director and actor whose credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The film will be ready later this year.
