Meet DRU, The Domino’s Robotic Unit

1

DRU (Domino’s Robotic Unit) is an autonomous delivery vehicle and is set to take the world by storm. With sleek, refined forms combined with a friendly persona and lighting to help customers identify and interact with it, DRU is a world first in the space of commercial autonomous delivery.

He is a four wheeled vehicle with compartments built to keep the customer’s order piping hot and drinks icy cold whilst traveling on the footpath at a safe speed from the store to the customer’s door.

2

DRU is able to navigate from a starting point to his destination, selecting the best path of travel. His on-board sensors enable him to perceive obstacles along the way and avoid them if necessary.

3

While he won’t be taking the to the streets tomorrow, DRU is a big step forward in the work Domino’s is doing in the future commercialization of this technology.

Cousins and best friends, Francis Garcia and Sal Basile opened Artichoke Basille’s in New York City in 2008. Having gotten their hands into the business early working at their family’s restaurant, Basille’s in Staten Island, the boys and their pizza shop have made more than a name for themselves in Manhattan.

In 2010, the cousins opened up their second Artichoke location in Chelsea, New York City, featuring sit-down dining and expanded menu items. And a third location opened to serve up the legendary slices in what was once the heart of American Bohemia, Greenwich Village on MacDougal Street. Their never-ending line of devoted fans includes the likes of Keith Richards and Momofuku’s David Chang.

Check out Artichoke Basille’s Pizza’s website for more info.

Join a weekly mouthwatering exploration of pizza across the country through the taste buds of these two cousins / pizza aficionados on Pizza Cuz on The Cooking Channel on Mondays at 9pm ET.

On the first episode, Francis and Sal go to Apizza Scholls in Portland, OR. my all-time favorite pizza restaurant. Get there early, there is always a line out the door.
