The Simpsons’ Animated Short Film Maggie Simpson In Playdate With Destiny Streams Tomorrow on Disney+

Today Disney+ set a playdate with the Simpsons announcing the animated short film “Maggie Simpson in ‘Playdate with Destiny’” will stream globally on the service beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 10. “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening shared a special handwritten note on social media revealing the news with fans around the world:

The film begins on a day that seemed like just another day at the park for Maggie Simpson. But when Maggie faces playground peril, a heroic young baby whisks her from danger — and steals her heart. After a blissful first playdate, Maggie can’t wait to see her new baby beau again the following day, but things don’t go exactly as planned.  Will fate (or Homer) get in her way?

Originally released in theatres before Disney and Pixar’s “Onward,” “Maggie Simpson in ‘Playdate with Destiny’” builds on the success of the franchise’s 2012 Academy Award-nominated film, “Maggie Simpson in ‘The Longest Daycare,’” which will also begin streaming on Disney+ later this month. Both films join the service’s impressive “The Simpsons” collection including “The Simpsons Movie” and 30 seasons of the Emmy Award-winning television series.

The Simpsons Short ‘Playdate with Destiny’ Will Play Before Pixar’s Onward Film

While Pixar films normally feature original shorts ahead of new releases, Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox has created a new universe of properties.

Onward will feature a Simpsons short entitled, “Playdate With Destiny”  centered on the youngest member of the iconic animated family, Maggie!

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney Pixar’s Onward introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. The cast will feature the voices of MCU stars Chris Pratt (Avengers: Infinity War), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home), portraying the roles of elf brothers Barley Lighfoot and Ian Lightfoot, respectively. The film will also star Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) as Laurel Lightfoot, Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water) as the Manticore, Mel Rodriguez, as Officer Colt Bronco, Lena Waithe as Officer Specter; and Ali Wong as Officer Gore. The feature will be directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) and produced by Kori Rae. Scanlon said that Onward was inspired by his own relationship with his brother.

Onward will arrive in theaters on March 6, 2020.
