Clarice: Silence of The Lambs Sequel Series In The Works At CBS

After more than 28 years since The Silence of the Lambs had its theatrical release in 1991, CBS has officially announced that they have given a series commitment to the award-winning thriller film’s sequel series titled Clarice, which will continue to follow Clarice Starling after the events of author Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel The Silence of the Lambs. The titular character was first portrayed by Jodie Foster, who won her second Academy Award for Best Actress for her memorable performance in the film.

Set in 1993, a year after the events of “The Silence of the Lambs,” Clarice is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.

The original film was directed by Jonathan Demme (Rachel Getting Married) from a screenplay adapted by Ted Tally. Its starred Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in their iconic roles as Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

The series will be written and executive produced by frequent collaborators Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery) and Jenny Lumet, who are both also currently working together on CBS All Access’ upcoming series The Man Who Fell to Earth.

“After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling,” Kurtzman and Lumet said in a joint statement. “Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.”

FX Developing Carrie Limited Series Based On Stephen King’s Novel

FX is in the very early stage of developing a limited series of Stephen King’s classic Carrie.

The novel, King’s legendary debut, centers on Carrie White, a high school teenager picked on by her classmates but with an extraordinary gift: she can move things with her mind. An act of kindness, as spontaneous as the vicious taunts of her classmates, offers Carrie a chance to be normal… Until unexpected cruelty turns her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction that no one will ever forget.

Carrie was previously adapted in 1976 by director Brian De Palma and writer Lawrence D. Cohen. The movie received two Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress in a Leading Role for star Sissy Spacek.

Other adapted versions of the story include 1988’s Broadway show Carrie: The Musical, the 2002 TV movie from David Carson and Bryan Fuller, and the 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, written by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Kimberly Pierce.

Carrie joins a list of King titles being adapted for the small and big screen, including Epix’s Jerusalem’s Lot, MGM’s The Dark Half, CBS All Access’ The Stand, and HBO’s The Outsider.

Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee Primetime Special Airing On ABC December 20

Stars of the Marvel Universe assemble to celebrate the life and luminous legacy of Stan Lee in an ABC News production, Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee, airing Friday, December 20 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. ET) on ABC.

Filmed in part in front of a live audience at The New Amsterdam Theater in New York City, Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee takes viewers on an action-packed journey throughout the life of Lee and across the Marvel Universe, sharing never-before-seen interviews and archive footage with Lee himself from deep within the Marvel and ABC News archives.

Lee was one of the most prolific and legendary comic creators of all time. In his more than seven decades in the industry, Lee dreamed up an endless number of new characters and worlds, and brought readers an all-star roster of heroes and villains. As the co-creator of many of Marvel’s iconic comic book characters, including Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men and Black Panther, Lee is credited with making an unprecedented impact on the world of pop culture. He was a visionary and true pioneer whose work lives on in everything from blockbuster films, television series and comic books to video games and consumer products.

During the special, stars Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Saquon Barkley, Mark Hamill, Jimmy Kimmel, Method Man, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Lauren Ridloff, Kevin Smith, Deborah Ann Woll, Joe Quesada, Seth Green, Bob Iger, CB Cebulski, Todd McFarlane, Kevin Feige, Gerry Conway and more share their memories of Lee.

Known for his vivid and engaging prose, Lee gave his heroes real-world problems and realistic human failings. Besides saving the world, they had to face everyday concerns such as dating or paying the rent, and Lee never shied away from social commentary on relevant issues such as race or substance abuse. He also broke ground in giving credit to comic creators, and filled every issue of his titles with chatty responses to fan letters. After years as Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, Lee became Marvel’s editorial director and publisher in 1972, and eventually was named chairman emeritus.

In addition to his publishing successes, Lee also appeared in some of the most popular films of all time. His well-known cameos in Marvel films began with 1989’s telefilm The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, and since the release of X-Men in 2000 he has appeared in nearly every Marvel production, including 22 Marvel Studios films. Lee also appeared in many television series, including Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Agent Carter and Marvel’s Daredevil, Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man and even as a LEGO version of himself in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers. Outside the Super Hero realm, he even pops up as a wedding guest in Disney’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and portrayed a version of himself in the indie classic Mallrats.

“As a young man, Stan ‘The Man’ Lee always dreamed of writing, going on to create some of the greatest heroes of our modern times,” said Joe Quesada, Executive Vice President, Creative Director of Marvel Entertainment. “Stan showed each of us how to be a hero in our everyday lives, and the stories he wrote will go on to influence generations of fans for decades to come. We can’t wait for all you True Believers out there to see this special to honor and celebrate Stan’s incredible life and all the lives he has touched.”
