Today, Funko revealed another Pop! that will be available online for New York Comic Con.
This very well might be one of my favorite Funko figures within the past few years. Meet the Super Sized Fezzik (Andre The Giant) complete with his trusty boulder ready to battle Wesley, the Man in Black from the wonderful 1987 film, The Princess Bride.
No word on pricing or ordering info yet but I imagine it will be similar to how Funko handled San Diego Comic Con orders via their website.
The cast of The Princess Bride will hold a re-union where they will hold a virtual script reading of the 1987 film to raise money for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. The participants will include Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Bill Crystal, Rob Reiner, special guests, and Patton Oswalt will moderate a Q&A session.
People from around the world can sign-up HERE to donate and watch the reading on September 13th at 6:00 PM CT.
The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes released the following statement upon the announcement: “I think most people are aware by now that Donald Trump has completely abdicated his duties as President to represent and stand up for all Americans. He has failed to keep the country safe from COVID-19 and as a result he is responsible for the devastating chaos, violence and economic collapse that we are now experiencing. If America is going to have a real chance at healing we must get rid of Trump. And that is only possible if we win Wisconsin. I am thrilled to be part of this very rare reunion of my colleagues from The Princess Bride as a way to increase awareness and garner resources for the state that will determine the fate of America.”
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement upon the announcement: “The 2020 election is just like The Princess Bride: giants, monsters, chases, escapes, miracles. We’re thrilled that some of the world’s greatest stars are joining us to relive the magic of my favorite movie in the world and help us safely navigate the fire swamp of Wisconsin politics.”
The Princess Bride Adventure Book Game differs from traditional board games in that players interact with different game boards within the “book.” Players will become immersed in the story as they complete each chapter and navigate their way through locations found in the 1987 film, The Princess Bride. In this chapter-based board game, players need to work together to keep the plot of the story on course and tell all six chapters despite constant interruptions from a sick Grandson and interference from Vizzini, Count Rugen and Prince Humperdink. Players cooperate to complete challenges by moving the seven paintable character miniatures and discarding Story cards from their hand. Once all chapters are completed, the players win the game and true “wuv” prevails.
The game is 1-4 players for ages 10+ and will cost $25 at Target and on Ravensburger’s official website. The game will be released on October 4th, 2020.
Beloved 1987 film The Princess Bride is getting a DIY makeover from some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Though the project is helmed by “Juno” director Jason Reitman, who has previously staged live readings of the film’s script, the remake was shot entirely at-home by each cast member using their phones. Beginning June 29, Quibi will release chapters of the fan-made movie every day for two weeks.
The star-studded cast includes couples Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis, as well as Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi and Zazie Beetz, and even more.
The actors will trade off roles throughout scenes, each paying homage to “The Princess Bride” in their own unique way. In addition, original director Rob Reiner will play “The Grandfather” and Fred Savage will reprise his role of “The Grandson,” 33 years later.
The roles aren’t the only aspects of the film getting switched up: a corgi plays the “Rodent of Unusual Size,” Lego figurines or stuffed animals are used for crowd scenes and Jonas and Turner gender-swap a couple of the roles, with Jonas playing Princess Buttercup and Turner as Westley.
The remake is also for a good cause, as Quibi donated $1 million in the name of the project to chef José Andrés’ charity World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to those who have been most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
This Thursday, you can join Inigo Montoya, The Man in Black, and Fezzik on their quest to avenge Inigo’s father and find true love.
