Cemetery Dance Announces The Shining: The Deluxe Special Edition By Stephen King

1

A Collectible Limited one time printing featuring an introduction by Stephen King, an afterword by Mick Garris and color paintings by Don Maitz.

This is the very first edition of The Shining published anywhere in the world to include Stephen King’s original, uncut 40 page prologue entitled “Before the Play” restored at its proper place at the beginning of the story. This may end up being the only edition to ever present the complete story of the Overlook Hotel as King originally wrote it, so don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Although an excerpt from the prologue appeared in TV Guide in the 1990s, this is the first time the complete prologue has ever appeared where Stephen King intended it to go — right at the beginning of The Shining!

About the Book:

The Overlook Hotel claimed the most beautiful physical setting of any resort in the world; but Jack Torrance, the new winter caretaker, with his wife Wendy and their five-year-old son Danny, saw much more than its splendor.

Jack saw the Overlook as an opportunity, a desperate way back from failure and despair; Wendy saw this lonely sanctuary as a frail chance to prerserve their family; and Danny? Danny, who was blessed or cursed with a shining, precognitive gift, saw visions hideously beyond the comprehension of a small boy. He sensed the evil coiled within the Overlook’s 110 empty rooms; an evil that was waiting just for them.

Special Features For This Deluxe Special Edition:

– An introduction by Stephen King
– An afterword by Mick Garris
– Includes the complete text of “Before the Play,” Stephen King’s 40 page prologue that has never appeared in any edition of The Shining
– Deluxe oversized design (7 inches X 10 inches) featuring two color interior printing as part of the page design

Jack Torrance By Nick Comparone

I befriended artist Nick Comparone at a Hero Complex Gallery art show and mentioned to him that I was a huge Stephen King fan and would love him to paint a piece for me reflecting the prolific author’s work.

This Jack Torrance painting arrived in the mail today. Nick paints on actual book pages and cleverly chose the “REDRUM” page. Thank you so much Nick for the gorgeous piece which I will cherish forever; it will be placed amongst my Stephen King collection of books.

Vincent Chong’s Cover For The Shining Limited Edition

Artist Vincent Chong created the dustjacket artwork for the limited edition of The Shining. He thought it would be cool to utilize the wraparound cover so that the front of the book showcased only Jack Torrance with Danny on the back. When the book is opened flat you get the complete image.

USA Today Interview With Stephen King

1379544800000-page-2-Stephen-King

USA Today featured an interview with Stephen King in which he spoke about Doctor Sleep and offers his insight about how The Shining  influenced his writing of Doctor Sleep.

The author also discusses future projects:

Next for King is a non-supernatural suspense novel, Mister Mercedes, about a deranged terrorist with a bomb. King says he began it before the Boston Marathon bombing, but it’s “too creepily close for comfort.”

The Maine writer also hopes to stay involved with the TV adaptation of his science-fiction novel Under the Dome, a CBS hit that ended its debut season with a cliffhanger Monday. Anticipating a second season, he hopes to write the script of the first episode or “maybe even a couple,” but he won’t say if it will diverge from the novel.

New Paperback Edition of Stephen King’s The Shining Due In June To Contain Doctor Sleep Excerpt

A new paperback edition ($7.99) of The Shining will be released on June 26th and contain an excerpt from Doctor Sleep.

Doctor Sleep is an upcoming novel by Stephen King, a sequel to King’s novel The Shining (1977), set to be published on September 24, 2013.

The book synopsis is as follows:

On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara in Talks to Write The Shining Prequel

The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara is in talks to write The Overlook Hotel, which will serve as a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining based on the Stephen King novel.

No official word about what the plot of this prequel will be, but the focus could fall on the character of Delbert Grady, played by Philip Stone in the 1980 film, who served as the caretaker of the hotel prior to Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance.

The project is being developed by Warner Bros. to be produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Bradley Fischer, James Vanderbilt and Laeta Kalogridis.

Stephen King wrote a prologue entitled, “Before The Play” to The Shining that accounted the dark history of the Overlook Hotel and the grisly murders that occurred there. Financial decisions related to the length of the book forced the publisher Doubleday to cut the prologue. You can read more about this little known literary gem HERE.
